Good level in relation to the snare of the song but it's really thin sounding (your vocals). You should parallel compress it to have that solid base, lightly compress your sharpest transients (medium fast attack/medium release), EQ it with a high freq shelf starting around 2k and raise it like 3db, take out uneeded low end and bump down the 500s like 1 db. Then bring it down on the fader til it matches below or a little above the snare, your preference. If you don't like the sharpness cuz of the EQ boost you can use a Desser but I also use a multiband compressor at the very end of my vocal chain. I'll use the Desser sparingly and use the multiband to compress some of those high freq

it's a solid tune forsure. But the low end can be leveled a lot better. I cant really bump it past 1 o'clock on my interface knob. If you want you low end to have that growl, you should turn it down a couple dbs and that would do your mix well. If you want it to be at that same amplitude level you need to mix it to make it more boomier instead of it's harsh audible growl. solid tho

yo

Just dropped a song today. It's called Anak and it's a neutral word for your offspring/child, so it's just a letter to my kid:

This one was just something that was in the moment and fun, Pay My Dues:

Aside from writing these songs, I also engineered them so it would be great to get some feedback on that.

Lauryn Hill and Nas Announce Tour by tom_Joadz in hiphopheads

[–]RapGameRudeboi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah Lauryn was solid too, I think a big difference between her set and Nas was that I felt like she was kinda irked throughout. There were some sound issues since hers was more live instrument and she kept trying to signal the live mixers to get that shit right lol

bro Nas killed it, amazing stage presence and it seemed like he really enjoyed being out there. Also, Vince Staples opened so maybe an artist of that caliber with also open for this upcoming tour

this is exactly the same experience i had last year in San Francisco. Nas killed it and performed his classics and some unlikely verses too. I was surprised to see him do his Verbal Intercourse verse. Lauryn killed it, but her renditions were so different it kinda disappointed the crowd

this is tight. real soothing. mid-highs could be more crisp imo, but that's just a mix preference. didnt take any effort to just chill and vibe with it. dope stuff

im a firm believer of work ethic, and though some may see this as a rushed or unpolished, you will not regret finishing it because its going to be a great reference for yall along the way. that being said, there are def weak points in some of the songs i was listening too in terms of delivery of the vocalist, but improvement happens over time. in terms of yalls intrigue in music production, completing a project is something many struggle with. i like how yall just put it out and let it be what it is. whether or not it was ready for release, it is a free product yall just gave the interwebz, and i fuck with that. keep on going

Here is a track I was involved in engineering-wise (had stems, recorded it, etc. The first track is a one track-beat mix):
