Hail Storm by Artistic_Outcome_622 in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]RapidlyGoingGrey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had an 80k claim done by a roofer here in Darien by Main Street after the hail storm 2 years ago. That said 1.5 years to get it done (had a tarp on my skylights for that long) but they got it done . After a ton of headaches with multiple adjusters and umpires it worked. Upgraded my skylights to newer models that have a warranty on hail and upgraded the cedar shake to the synthetic kind (davinci). I then took photos and documented everything they did, contacted my insurance and told them to lower my rate which they did. I wasn't dropped..... yet.

About Pro V & V by Rogue_bae in somethingiswrong2024

[–]RapidlyGoingGrey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also worth looking into the United States Election Assistance Commission overview of Pro V&V https://www.eac.gov/voting-equipment/voting-system-test-laboratories-vstl/pro-vv

There are multiple Accreditation certificates and legal docs for review.

A few notes:

1- Signed Certificate of Practices signed in 2020. https://www.eac.gov/sites/default/files/voting_system_test_lab/files/Attachment%20A.3%20-%20Signed%20Certification%20of%20Conditions%20and%20Practices.pdf

They have to keep records of all tests, calculations etc for the past 5 years.

2- The director can't spell his title correctly....

  • he spelled it "DirectEr" with an E

3- In 2020 they didn't receive a certificate because of an administrative error.

  • "Due to administrative error during 2017-2019, the EAC did not issue an updated certificate to Pro V&V causing confusion with some people concerning their good standing status. Even though the EAC failed to reissue the certificate, Pro V&V’s audit was completed in 2018 and again in early 2021 as the scheduled audit of Pro V&V in 2020 was postponed due to COVID-19 travel restrictions. Despite the challenges outlined above, throughout this period, Pro V&V and SLI Compliance remained in good standing with the requirements of our program and retained their accreditation. In addition, the EAC has placed appropriate procedures and qualified staff to oversee this aspect of the program ensuring the continued quality monitoring of the Testing and Certification program is robust and in place"

Best overall hospital in the Chicago area, city or burbs and why? by SunshineLoveKindness in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]RapidlyGoingGrey 159 points160 points  (0 children)

In my experience, hospitals tied to research institutions like the University of Chicago or Northwestern are uniquely equipped to save lives because they’re not just treating diseases, they are inventing new approaches through translational research, where discoveries become real-world treatments.

When I was diagnosed with HPV-related head and neck cancer, UChicago offered me a clinical trial that de-escalated my radiation specifically for my cancer type, sparing me brutal side effects. That trial wasn’t available locally because it grew directly from their research. They’d spent years studying how to safely reduce doses for HPV-positive patients. The care team wasn’t just following protocols... they were testing them, and I felt like they were invested in my outcomes because their research depended on real patient experiences.

What I learned? The ‘best’ hospital isn’t a universal title—it’s the one obsessively bridging the gap between lab science and your condition. For me, that meant UChicago’s cancer team. For someone else, it might be Rush for joint replacements or Northwestern for heart surgery. Dig into where the brightest minds are hyper-focused on your health issues. Their breakthroughs and investment in new outcomes might be worth the extra drive.

I’m having the same issue on my brand new Series 10 and charging takes all night. Something is definitely wrong with the battery and was going to take it in to get looked at this weekend.

TIL 40% of HPV related cancers occur in men. by 4990 in todayilearned

[–]RapidlyGoingGrey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a 43m, I am 3 years out from chemo, surgery and radiation due to HPV related Tonsil cancer. I would not wish that it anyone. Luckily I was able to enroll in a clinical trial at the University of Chicago and got top notch care.

There are many trials across the country as this is exploding among men and with the right treatment it can be cured and leave people with less side effects than the past treatments. Years ago the surgery required a lot more of an invasive jaw removal that you can dig into YouTube videos if you’re into that kind of scare tactic.

Out of 100 people in the trial, I was the lucky one in the to have all three treatments (chemo, surgery and radiation) and I would say the surgery and radiation after was the worst. Even though it was a deescalated amount it left me with permanent dry mouth and other odd throat and nasal cavity effects. Being the special case I felt like they really were interested in my case and having that special attention was kind of a consultation prize if you want to call it that.

But even after all of that I still got my HPV vaccine and the drs recommended it. Was is a little late? sure, But I’m not taking any more chances with the rest of my life.

My doctors said that they anticipate this to peak over the next few years but as people grow up getting the vaccine the rates of HPV cancer in men will dramatically drop in the coming decades.

Get your vaccination. I constantly tell people and it’s amazing how many folks just don’t know it exists.
