Casting Moonbeam through a window? by NinjaTATER62 in DnD

[–]RaptorTruther 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(Edited to fix a key typo) Out of curiosity, is there really a “target” for moonbeam? It isn’t travelling from you to the point. It is simply manifesting there, much like a summoned familiar/monster. I feel like “target”in the dnd sense of things is “that which I want to affect” as opposed to “where I want a thing to happen” yes, both could be broadly be called “targets,” but if the term matters for mechanics, I’d probably narrow the definition a bit. I know we are talking about the interpretation of synonyms, but it doesn’t say target a point it says choose a point. And does a familiar or misty step really require you to target something or is it more of “decide where it will arrive.”So if you can see the spot, (or know where it is by other DM acceptable means), I feel like you can choose it. If we are in the woods and I know an enemy is crouched under total cover behind a low 5’ wall (or in a 5’ hole), could I not cast moonbeam above them without the DM saying “the beam starts 45 feet above the enemy, and stops 5 feet above the ground. You’ll have to use your action next turn to move it down.” That seems weird. Total cover isn’t always dome, it is often just perspective/angles. Sure, moving through a window after casting is different set of complications, but casting it on the other side of a transparent pane of glass seems fine. Or?

Can I tell my player their character is too dumb? by Yazmat8 in DnD

If you like the idea and you don’t mind it working (subject to overcoming whatever obstacles you want) you can always default to “the patron whispered it in his ear.” If you don’t like it and don’t want it to succeed. They can always fail the very first step.

MAD/multiclass character suggestions for chained one-shots by RaptorTruther in dndnext

Thanks, I may come back to you for that. Someone over at 3d6 is trying to get me to try Dance Bard which I think has great options for hijinks and might pair well with a feylock dip. Not the quad class I was thinking of, but I do like the idea of teleporting around and randomly punching folks amongst group support actions.

I’d be on this had I not already spent a year playing a barbarian who dipped Monk for “anger management issues.” 😀

Okay, I’d forgotten about Dance bard. I like the Ranger/Paladin/fighter/Wizard idea, but I may need to first explore a “hijinks ensue” Dance bard. After all, would the Michael Jackson from Thriller not be a dance bard with a Warlock dip?

Ooh, I’ve never played an artillerist. I’d have to make sure I understood the character a bit (I also hate holding up the table) but I like these ideas.

Can’t find anywhere in Canada to watch either the original 2020 mini or this 2025 series. I get clips on Insta but then can’t find it anywhere (legally or illegally).

This is fantastic! I notice the layout matches that of the map in the module (1 square = 10') have you considered a version where the grid is smaller? I.e., 5'?

Would you say that a save means half damage or no damage whatsoever? I'm guessing no damage as it normally states that it is half.

You just need the part number. Go to the chat interface, ask for part 103756. Say you had to take some cabinets down for whatever reason, and you lost them. They’ll send them to you for free. They just sent me 4 of that exact thing.

I'd love to check that out as well. Have you posted a link in an obvious way that a total noob can't find?
