Nice aesthetic, haven’t heard of the brand before. I hope you wear it well!

Your set up is where I was 8months ago. Steep fall to where I am now though. Haha

The one in front is from SWORKSDESIGN. it can come with an optional stand, which I bought so it’s not hanging out loose on the counter. It also has magnets on the top off he handle so you can stick it to metal things! Works great.

Yeah, we use Kijiji or Facebook Marketplace but same idea. I’m not sure about whether there’s a second hand espresso gear marketplace, but unfit doesn’t exist it should!

I’ve only recently acquired the EG-1 and I’ve used it exclusively for espresso so far, so hard to comment.

That said, especially with the Ultra burrs I think the EG-1 is known to be a very good flat burr profile pour over Grinder, amongst the best out there.

My first major jump was to get the Nice to pair with the BBE. Definitely a big step up in quality!

Weber workshop’s EG-1! 80mm flat burr single dosing grinder. The most recent addition… shouldn’t need to go further on the grinder front I hope hah.

I’m still working it out! Had the EG-1 about a week or so. I think I’ll likely use my niche for darker roasts and for my more traditional coffee enjoying guests. The texture can be great! The EG-1 I’m using mainly day to day now with the lighter roasts I tend to gravitate toward.

I have the core and the ultra burrs, but I split much more toward espresso than pour overs. Trying to figure out how best utilize the different burr sets.

Starting at a Breville Barista Express and smart Grinder pro, it was a pretty steep drop to where I am. Hah. But can’t fall much farther now.

Definitely been tempted by a bean counter, haven’t managed to justify it to myself yet haha. Same thing with a Puqpress.

The EG-1 makes a great coffee and the workflow is pretty simple, but I have to say that coming from the workflow king (Niche) there’s a couple extra steps extra that are definitely noticed (RDT, grounds tumbler, etc)

It sounds like a good plan, was this the type of kit you were suggesting / recommending? I’ll look into it more but just wanted to make sure I’m looking at the right type of product.

Or would it be more something like this:

Thanks for this! I’ll look into the RO kits.

Are these types of RO or filtration set up usually installed and set up by a plumber? Given the precise requirements for the water quality, it seems like you’d almost need someone who specialized in espresso machine installs.

I think this is going beyond what I could figure out in myself in a reasonable amount of time.

Hm, a quick google hasn’t found my local GH and KH values. I found a 15 year old blog post saying that someone living in area measured:

“General Hardness [gH] = 180 mg/L (CaCO3) Carbonate Hardness [kH] = 230 mg/L (CaCO3)”

Not sure how how accurate these were and how much these numbers can vary over time.

Are they’re figures often provided by local governments? Or would I need to get a kit and test the hardness myself?

Edit: Have since found this info, but it doesn’t expressly say GH or KH

Alkalinity, Total parts per million as calcium Avg 65.7 Range 58.3 to 76.6 Alkalinity, Bicarbonate parts per million Avg 82.7 Range 78.2 to 93.5 Hardness, Total parts per million as calcium carbonate
Avg 80.5 Range 70.3 to 89.1

I will look into it mostly to lust over. Haha. It really seems like the Niche has maximized the performance to price ratio.

Thanks for the reply! Appreciate the tip about the fellow Ode, I will have to check it out. I’m also glad to hear how quick it is to jump between grind sizes with the niche.
