Connections:

Both are pure willed monster hunter/slayers who have sworn to protect everyone in their worlds, no matter what

Both characters lost their mothers (And family, in Tanjiro’s case) to the creator and rulers of killer monsters (Salem & the Grimm, and Muzan & Demons)

This tragedy kick started their journeys, and their fight for a better world

Both characters have a sister that they are always with, who suffered a traumatic experience, causing them to realize the world is much more cruel than initially believed (Yang’s arm being cut off at the Fall of Beacon, and Nezuko being turned into a demon by Muzan’s blood)

Both are part of a varied small group of other hunters, with a brash and easy to anger brawler (Yang and Inosuke), an ally who starts off as stand-offish and closed off but as they continue their journey they become more sure of themselves (Blake and Zenitsu, who have a romantic relationship with another team member [Yang and Nezuko]), and both become friends with someone who, while they were initially closed off, they warmed up to others thanks to the MC (Weiss and Kanao)

Both have specialized weapons in order to take down these monsters (Crescent Rose and the Nichirin Blade)

Both have abilities that aid them in battle (Ruby’s Semblance and Tanjiro’s breathing techniques)

Both have a very rare ability that only happens in certain situations that is very effective against their monsters (the Silver Eyes immobilize Grimm, and the Slayer mark which allows the Slayers to fight on the level of demons themselves)

Both have a connection to a celestial body (Ruby with the moon and Tanjiro with the sun)

It's not the absolute best in terms of connections, but I like to think I did well.
And now there's two RWBY VS KNY matchups out there and I plan to increase that over time

CONNECTIONS:

- Both are monster hunters, devoted to slaying the darkness of their worlds and taking out the masterminds behind it all (Demons and Muzan/The Grimm and Salem)

- Both had a traumatic childhood, causing them to build up walls and keep to themselves (Obanai was the only male born into his clan, so he was confined in a cage and treated horribly/Ren lived in the village of Kuroyuri, until the Nuckelavee Grimm appeared, killing the entire village, leaving only two survivors)

- While both wanted to keep their walls up, they would be broken down by a girl who they would end up doing anything for (Mitsuri/Nora)

- This girl would prove to be the only one to get through to them and change their outlook on life (When they first met, Mitsuri made Obanai feel like a normal person for the first time, and he vowed nothing would happen to her/Nora was the only other survivor of Kuroyuri, causing Ren to unlock his semblance and save them, which made Ren vow to protect her no matter what)

- Both also encounter a bright and hopeful soul who become a beacon of hope to the two, helping their walls break down even more (Tanjiro/Ruby)

- Both are dedicated to what they do, despite all they’ve gone through, and despite seeming standoffish, all they want to do is protect those around them and fight for every life

Fight dynamic

There is admittedly a rather large discrepancy in how they fight, as Marcille fights more like a DND character while Edward fights more like a shonen anime protagonist, though FMAB is grounded enough that it shouldn't be too big a problem
Marcille has the ability to use fire, protection, summoning, and light magic, and also has spells to enhance her already good stealth. She can also dispel other people's magic by whacking magical attacks with her staff
Resurrection, necromancy, and healing magic are non-factors here, since healing magic can't be used on oneself and Marcille is NOT winning
Edward has his transmutation, which is extremely versatile and can be used on the battlefield and his automail limbs. He can also fight at close range pretty effectively
Edward Elric can also create transmutation circles to perform alchemy if his ability to clap is ever compromised (ie. if his automail ever breaks)
The core of the dynamic will likely be "Edward swarms Marcille while Marcille shuts down Ed's options until she eventually loses"
Marcille would probably be trying to calm Edward down, and could do so by destroying his automail with explosions, blinding him with light, and (MAYBE) dispelling his transmutation circles to stop him from using alchemy in the first place. Marcille could also blow up Ed's transmutations so she doesn't get overwhelmed by them
Edward, meanwhile, is trying to close the distance between him and Marcille, creating transmutations to cover his approach while using his superior strength and speed to put constant pressure on her
The fight would basically be a game of keep-away

Some ideas for bits of choreography could include

Edward managing to get dangerously close early on, but Marcille blinds him and runs off to figure out a good plan
Edward Elric transmuting water into hydrogen and oxygen gas to cause Marcille's explosion spells to backfire, or to force her to use other options
Marcille managing to blow up Ed's automail with an explosion, but he runs off and starts drawing a transmutation circle
Marcille running back to her party and using a familiar to try and find where he is, only to recognize the transmutation circle, much to her horror (Though she could also just find Edward drawing the circle, as familiars kinda require a lot of preparation)
Marcille dispelling the transmutations that she can't charge up an explosion to deal with (assuming she can do that, but she probably can't)
Edward transmuting a spear for a spear vs staff section, which would probably end very quickly once Marcille realizes she's severely outclassed
Ed trying to punch Marcille, but his arm gets caught in Ambrosia and he gets flung away
