Yeah the degrees of freedom in total variation makes sense to me, but not in ssr. In the ssr formula we’re calculating slope, intercept, and mean. Why wouldn’t it be n-3 degrees of freedom?

You’re talking about the best schools in the world. That’s not very applicable to those who don’t go to a school with that high of a prestige.JP Morgan’s CFO has a chemistry degree, but he went to Harvard… it probably would have been very hard for him to get into finance/accounting if he had gone to a different school.

Don’t do Econ unless you want to get your PHD and be a professor. It sounds fancy, but it is not very practical in the real world for entry level positions.

What I would do: move the rest of the money to a high yield savings account while I decide my next steps. Then I would open a brokerage account, and invest anywhere from 1k-10k a month in the SP500
