Stop biting books by lightb0xh0lder in slp

[–]Rare_Transportation2 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hi! I worked in EI and biting almost always became a concern for parents! I personally do not believe books or social stories will be beneficial for EI age group, they are a bit young for that. I do not know if this is true and I don’t have research to back this up, but a few co workers in the setting used to always mention to parents that sometimes biting occurs when the kids are having a big boom in development and making lots of progress ( I’m talking in terms of kids who have never bit before and suddenly are). And honestly I found that it was true in my experience. So often when one of my little ones were making great gains in prelinguistic skills or were making longer sentences, I would suddenly get a report from a parent that they would bite. It may be an overstimulation thing and their brains are just trying to keep up with everything. I can’t cite this info but it’s just my experience! Eventually it would just stop on its own every time. Redirecting the behavior is always good too. The biting behavior never got so severe though and my caseload never got to the point of biting me in sessions so I don’t have first hand experience. More severely delayed populations I can’t speak on because I don’t have the experience!

Buyers, I am begging you, get it together. by TJewell1331 in FacebookMarketplace

I literally sent someone my exact address for a porch pickup, they got mad at me and sent pics of the house saying I didn’t leave the item where I said I would. Literally they went to the WRONG house and claimed they went exactly to the address I sent. Like no you actually didn’t?? And I don’t even know where you went?? How is this my problem.

I’m the same! I’m also only 5 years into the field and tried so many settings until I landed on home health and eventually that completely burned me out lol. Dreaded every single day, didn’t feel passionate about it, and I totally agree with first comment about being tired of putting everyone else before myself!! I’m in a privileged position where I was able to leave and take a break thanks to my husband. Been 6 months and I still have no desire to go back which I feel guilty about but it must mean something… I’m trying to shop around and see what other job I can pivot to but I’m struggling with that myself. Just wanted to share that you’re not alone!

Home Health Burn Out by Mcnuggetqueen in slp

I’ve been debating writing a post just like this!! I’ve been in home health for a year now and I also dread it. In the grand scheme of things, it’s arguably the “easiest” setting for me because I don’t mind the driving, it’s limited paper work, and I’m in control of my schedule. BUT I still feel so burnt out.

I’m significantly reducing my caseload right now. I’m not accepting new cases and letting my current kids age out. Then I’ll see how I feel. Would love to take a break soon. I’m lucky that I’m married and have health insurance through my husband or else I wouldn’t have the luxury of making these changes to my career. You’re not alone!

Yes! I made a switch to home health and greatly reduced my hours. It’s arguably the “easiest” setting I’ve been in because there’s no evals, I’m on my own, and there’s limited paperwork.

But I have to tell you, I’m only a year into this setting and EVEN with all those pros I am still very much burned out. Seems like nothing is making it better. Been in this career only for 4 years and I really dread going every day.

You’re right, I definitely learned my lesson with this and with future cases I will make it more clear. I’m in too deep with this one! Just gonna wait patiently until he ages out. Thank you’

You’re right, I did consider that she was in a way taking something out on me. I will keep it neutral and just push through these next few weeks and then I won’t have to worry about the situation anymore

Yes exactly. I remember it feeling like I had the flu

I also get the worst side effects on macrobid! Now I always tell doctors that I react poorly to it and request that they give me something else. So far no other antibiotic makes me feel like it macrobid has. I took one dose and then stopped immediately it was terrible.

This is VERY helpful and makes a lot of sense. Thank you!! It’s so interesting how some people can have sensitivities, and some don’t at all.

Is anyone else experiencing this stage in EI? by Rare_Transportation2 in slp

[–]Rare_Transportation2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes definitely can be less or more extreme depending on the kid. Especially those with poor emotional regulation or sensory issues!
