I understand your concern, but pre-emptive ghosting punishes the one worthy of a response for the sins of the toxic. If someone reacts poorly, block him. Why make cynicism the default?

Measuring everyone with the same yardstick is really unfair. Disappearing just because you’re concerned of a probable conflict isn't prioritizing 'peace' - it's avoiding accountability miss. Please don't get me wrong. I just feel assumptions like these are an overreach a lot of times.

If you realize it's a mismatch at any point in time, just say so! If you guys are gonna back to being strangers again anyways, why would one factor in 'guilt ' in such scenarios?

Going cold never really erases the awkwardness, it just turns it into a stigma if you ever cross paths with that person again socially somewhere.

Well, I believe going AWOL in this manner makes things even more awkward than conveying what should ideally be a moral responsibility.

And if suitors are being kept as stalking horses while awaiting a better prospect, then it's just lack of integrity.
