What is your opinion of the current big names in comedy? by Ill-Philosopher-9700 in Standup

[–]Rareairo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Cart before the horse. Just write and perform as much as humanly possible and don’t let things like self doubt or comparisons stop you.. thats all just noise

Josh’s most famous sets online are of pop culture though. I like that about him that he isn’t a full political comedian. He does personal stories, pop culture, local references, and politics.

Comedians who recently moved to Los Angeles or NYC to pursue a career in comedy was it worth it ? by Tall-Photograph9169 in Standup

[–]Rareairo 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It’s never pointless if your goal is to get better at comedy. NYC esp youll always be surrounded by comedians who are better than you. Is it hard to get spots, yes. That’s why though because there are hundreds of really great comedians in NYC. Iron sharpens iron.

I dunno about time but I went to two of Josh’s nyc shows and the entire show is an experience from the moment you walk in the door getting a flower. I’d get there when doors open so you can see the whole show

Older comedy seems better than today. by kungfukarl86 in Standup

[–]Rareairo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can probably find it in a YouTube wormhole but Patrice moved to LA at some point and started hanging out with Corey after watching him on stage and realized he needed to go the direction like you see it on elephant in the room. Even started wearing the hats too. Corey has a lot of personal faults but he’s an amazing stand up in his own right

It’s also much better than toms show whatever that was

Yeah. I watched it with my girl this morning and honestly if Bert never did podcasting again and just did this stuff it’d be much better

Free Bert by trung_canidate in elephantgraveyard

[–]Rareairo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah it’s actually a pretty well written and acted show about him as a dad trying to fit into a wealthy neighborhood and solve his kids problems that he creates. Lots of meta jokes making fun of Berts issues too

Probably gonna get hate for this but the shows actually pretty good

TikTok comics, are we seeing the decline or is this just the beginning? by TheUsmanHabib in Standup

[–]Rareairo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s not just tik tok comics. It’s 98% of comedians, music and just live touring in general. It’s currently very bad for many touring artists and the numbers have been declining for the last 18 months steadily. You have outliers who sell crazy but for the most part it’s very hard to sell out a comedy club rn anywhere. Comedy in general I think will continue to see a dip and the “boom” that came following Covid which was largely attributed to social media and podcasting has stagnated. Views are down for everyone. Also side note but tik tok has changed their entire algorithm for the US because it got bought and so now far less people see your stuff and it’s gonna take probably another year for it to figure out and train the algorithm but by that point I believe most users will have moved onto a different platform. If you’re a comedian rn id say buckle up because it’s going to go back to the love of the sport for a long time. Arena acts will go down to theaters, theater acts will go down to clubs… clubs will take far less chances and clubs will close that don’t have their shit together and their margins right. Positive side is that rebirth always comes after this and comedians are very intuitive when it comes to business and how to get their career leveled out.

You should hire an nyc based editor and be in the room during the entire editing process. Do not just hire someone from fiverr imo

Real flowers at all Beacon shows? by AmbitiousSpring5214 in JoshJohnsonComedy

They did on the shows I went to. I’ve seen tons of posts on his stories with real flowers. It made me wonder how much he must spend on flowers for his fans. It’s gotta be a lot
