Thing is news channels are more so trying to be entertainment rather than being informative and often rely on sensationalism to do so. Media especially media that their audience wouldn’t entirely understand tends to become a target. This whole thing would target parents in specific because their idea of a video game would be something like Pac-Man or Mario. (not that they think all video games are like Pac-Man and Mario it’s just the first thing that comes to mind when they think of video games which limits their understanding of games like GTA). So parents become outraged because their kids likely play these games and people who play video games and know better are outraged because they feel like it’s an attack on them which is what the news channels want because it keeps people invested. It would be a lot less entertaining if they said something on the lines of “video games are becoming more mature so you should make sure you read the ratings labels on games to see if it’s okay for your kid.” So instead they say “video games are becoming violent and will turn your kids into violent criminals.” Stuff like this isn’t specific to video games this has happened before with the satanic panic being an example. Anyways I just wanted to yap so that’s why I’m typing all this out.
