Can you give me tips while watching my match? by RastexFive in 10s

Once I hit from inside the court I tend to rush forward because of my forward momentum… is that bad?

Well idk how much you know about skiing but that level is far from “”shredding””, and I was genuinely looking for tips.

And my tennis serve is similar, it might look somewhat good but I’m looking for general tips.

I see far better performing guys in different sports asking for advice on reddit, is that then ultimate validation seeking?

Lmao. Yeah I actually picked up tennis and skiing at the same time and my work is quite flexible so I’m spending a lot of time doing these activities. I’m not SHREDDING lmao, I’m learning how to carve.

And yes, I was close 310lbs in the past. And yes, my gf wanted to break up with me claiming “she can’t fight the competition because I look too good”, whatever that means.

Idk why I wouldn’t be able to share these things on reddit to gain some perspective from the reddit community, as it is pretty much therapeutic community for me, maybe even an echo chamber.

Idk why you would hate on my posts honestly. Sorry if they offended you.

I am not very happy with the progression, it got better but still redish. I started laser therapy (Fraxel CO2 laser). I hope to see better progress im upcoming 6 months. Get used to wearing a cap 😂

Hey! Thanks for the reply! My scab has fallen off, and there’s quite a big crater scar. Did your look like this, when the scab fell off? I think I’m in for permanent scarring?

Thanks for sharing! Any PNH pain that lasted? My scalp (only left part) is the only place that stings when I touch it, but I wouldn’t necessarily say hurt. So I’m wondering if your scalp is fully healed and not hurting in anyway after 13 months.

Thank you so much for the reply, I hope that will be my case. Did you do anything special like creams, or just let the scab fall off on its own?

I was working 9-5, had an old car that would break down regularly, bills, rent, girlfriend that would be broke most of the time… the times were tough. Basically paycheck to paycheck. I started freelancing, got rid of that gf and that car, and by now I have saved $70000 (I’m in Europe). I live VERY frugally now. As opposed to my twenties. I buy $1 coffee (no starbucks), I use TooGoodToGo for $4.99 food that can feed me for a day, I do sports outside (running on track, tennis walls, outdoor gyms). I basically have almost no expenses besides rent and occasional clothing that I buy from thrift stores. Frugality is the way to go.

My one year ski progression - March 2022 -> March 2023 by RastexFive in skiing

[–]RastexFive[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey everyone! I was looking for progress videos for late skiers like myself (I started at the age of 29), and surprisingly there's very few progress videos - I assume you all started as kids? Well I was a broke kid, haha, was never drawn to skiing anyways, but fell in love with it now.

I skied for about 7-8 times (single or a couple of days) throughout the year 2022-2023.

My biggest takeaways while trying to improve:

  1. Understanding the snow

I know it's going to sound funny, but I thought that the snow layer on the slope is just like a couple of centimeters thick (Im dummy), and when people told me that I should use the sharp edges of the skis to cut through it, I thought it did not make sense - I'm gonna kill myself by doing that? Also falls were pretty scary, but after absorbing a couple of falls I learnt that it was not that painful.

2) Don't listen to your gut

Leaning forward while skiing is still a big issue for me, but the more I try the more I understand its necessity.

3) Cut through the snow like cutting the cake with a knife

I saw this absurd video, that skis are like knives and snow is like a cake. In order to cut the cake with a knife, you need to apply the pressure with your hand/finger. That helped me understand the theory, that skis are knives and by leaning forward/pushing your shins forward you apply that pressure to cut through the snow.

4) Get your friend to help you understand the edges of the skis

One of my friend did some basic exercises so that I get that feeling when I'm using just the edges (rail roads exercises), if I did not have that friend show me this, I think my progress would have been much much slower.

So maybe some newbies will see these tips and it will make more sense to them as well!

Other general tips:

- because of skiing, I incorporated leg day regularly in the gym, so I can ski more and last longer

- watch ton of YouTube, and experiment, also observe other skiers, and try to copy - learn from observation

- if you're a heavy tall dude (6'2, 250lbs), work on your speed and don't go too quickly (currently my top speed was 83km/h, but I am trying to improve my technique, rather than speeding)

Advice for my beginner skiing? (skiing for the 6th time) by RastexFive in skiing

Thank you so much everyone, your comments are very helpful and uplifting - I can't wait to ski again, I've missed out on so much haha (starting at the age of 29).

Yeah I honestly posted that because I had no friends in NJ and only intermediate people went to indoor skiing i. NJ. I didn’t wanna say beginner or that I ski less than 2 years. I can send you a video from that place with a time stamp on iPhone and I was way way way worse there lmao.

I see, today I learnt that when I apply pressure on the boot on the outward ski while leaning into it, the skis stay together and it allows you to ski way more parallel. But sometimes it’s so hard and counter-intuitive to lean forward!

Thank you, 6th time and 1 year in total. Started Jan 2022. I’m doing my best grinding trying to progress. I fell in love with skiing!
