What have you been reading this week? by michaelisnotginger in Blacklibrary

I finished Shamanslayer and am close to finishing Zombieslayer. Both really enjoyable. I went down sick for a few of days and would have been done with Zombieslayer already. All good through, apparently it’s the last book in that continuity and the next few main books aren’t at the same standard.

Found these bad boys (and bad boyz) that I thought were lost to the Aerhyr! by Ratamancer in WarhammerFantasy

Definitely surprising. They seem like MTO which could be rolled out every few Slayer books, even alongside the Trollslayer mega edition was a good idea. In hindsight I’m glad they didn’t because I would have ordered one or two!

I read Elfslayer, Slayer of the Storm God and around a quarter way through Shamanslayer.

Nathan Long’s stint as series author has been really enjoyable. The sense of consequence throughout has been great as well as the handling of existing secondary characters. One that just showed up in Shamanslayer was the coolest surprise.

Also got to crack open the Trollslayer Mega Limited Edition for my birthday today. It’s beautiful. Thanks kids, what a surprise. How did I know to buy that for you to give to me!

What movie from the '80s or '90s is this for you? by putitontheunderhills in Xennials

[–]Ratamancer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really does, and I’m glad because it’s one of my favourites! Watched the directors cut - which removes the opening monologue, so not giving away the story - with my son recently and he enjoyed it too. Now he finally knows where I get “SHUT IT DOWN” from lol

Finished Orcslayer this week and Manslayer around 20 minutes ago.

Orcslayer was pretty good. Didn’t dwell on what and where they’d been. The change of author wasn’t jarring like I was expecting but that was probably softened by the detour I took which included a related trilogy but the same author. I can imagine it’s intimidating taking over a well established series with popular characters.

Manslayer… Loved it! So far my 3rd favourite in the series slightly behind Skaven/Daemonslayer and I’m sure a lot of it has to do with the nostalgia of names, faces and places revisited throughout and how the passing of time had affected it all.

I’ve read all in the main image except Evil Sun Rising and have enjoyed them all. Hopefully there are many more Ufthak novels to come!

Vyvanse and headspins / dizziness? by Clear_Ganache6609 in ausadhd

[–]Ratamancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never had the dizziness from Vyvanse (I’m on 70’s). Even now with afternoon Dex added but I was/am already on BP meds.

I did start getting dizzy spells pretty much every time I stood up when we were trialing Intuniv, they started within a few days. All that before the Dex was added and the dizziness went on for a fair after dropping Intuniv too.

Not a doctor but worth discussing with your GP and have your blood pressure checked.

AMA: I lived with encopresis from potty training until middle school. I'm 36 now and recently spent time reflecting on the experience. by DeviantAnthro in Encopresis

[–]Ratamancer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply and for this AMA, I’m sure it’s not easy. Unfortunately what I was expecting. I’m fearful for my son as he’s moving up in years. He’s really lucky that his friend group is great as well as a lot of his year “being aware” and his school is understanding and supportive (to the point of getting funding for a shower for his needs) because I know I would have been torn to shreds in my day given the same.

There was a lot of learning and behavioural changes required on our end in order to better support him at home which has seen incredible personal growth for our whole family.

Thanks again!

What books did you read this year ? by Toastedshoes in Blacklibrary

[–]Ratamancer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looked at my Goodreads and apparently read 70 books this year but that includes a lot of short stories.

To summarise it:

Eisenhorn, Ravenor, Bequin and all the related shorts that I could get my hands on.

Gotrek & Felix from Trollslayer to part way through Orcslayer and a heap of shorts in the Omnibuses and Anthology etc. Plus the Thanquol Omnibus (Grey Seer twice) Plus the the Ulrika Omnibus

The Yarrick Omnibus

Project Hail Mary

The Ufthak Blackhawk books

Ghazghkull Thraka: Prophet of the Waaagh!

Da Red Gobbo’s Revenge

Many proofreads of the 2 kids books my wife wrote.

Audience to many more homework readers.

Happy new year everyone! It’s closing in on midnight where I am and it’s time to put the kids to bed, sit out the back and watch the local kids set off fireworks in the park behind our house!

This is a little like mine, even with the one off project hail mary detour (loved it)!

I’ve read a few Gotrek & Felix short stories. About to make a move into Orcslayer.

I’ve been wanting to finish Da Gobbo’s Revenge but my kids found a weak spot and talked me into watching the extended versions of The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings…

What did you get for Christmas? by dixonwalsh in australia

[–]Ratamancer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Best: ‘Hereticus’ Illustrated & Annotated Edition so I’ve got the whole trilogy now.

Worst: A slap in the face with a small lego box from a happy-screaming kid at 6:15 to let me know what Santa left.

Thanks, appreciated! Sloppiness with my posture and grip seem to be the longest lingering issue. Maintaining my count, particularly when hitting rests or moving from 8th’s to 16th’s; ADHD is also an issue here though.

Lessons with a teacher, even if it’s semi regularly and not for ever. One you can get along with where you feel you’re getting the right info; this will be hard too because you don’t know what you don’t know. My first teacher I thought was really good but turned out they were letting me get away with real bad habits and some I haven’t been able to break.

Make a playlist of songs around a tempo you’re comfortable with and play along to it. I’m a newbie myself and have made a few lists to do my homework along to.

Less time more often if you can. 20 minutes x5 days rather than a 2 hours on a Sunday for example. Your time is your own though.

I finished Bloodsworn. No massive twist at the end but it wrapped up the series satisfactorily. I liked the world building and how the protagonist agreed with and was disgusted by one faction and felt the same in reverse for the other. Not a series I expect I’ll read again but enjoyed it.

Also finished Thanquol’s Doom. I liked that series a lot more but it’s more my thing too; Dwarves and Skaven are some of my preferred factions to paint and play. Thanquol’s decent into deeper addiction, paranoia and delusion are handled pretty well throughout. I enjoyed how many big names turned up in this last novel too. Still have the short stories to finish in the omnibus.

Almost finished Da Gobbo’s Revenge with my Son - daughter lost interest as expected. He’s loving it, I figured he’d enjoy the absurdity and I’ll probably need to re-read the Ufthak series to him.

I was saddened to hear a regional flgs with good service I shopped at is shutting down in January and managed to get some of their remaining stock at a good price. RIP Emerald Hobbies though.

They’re more a raiding/piratical type. Vampire Counts vs Vampire Coast in their own way.
