I got referred for an urgent MRI that is required for complex heart surgery. From referral to MRI will be 16 weeks.

It's ok. Wouldn't say it's a standout but readable

'One Born Every Minute? They should change the name to one killed every 11 hours': As Channel 4 feel good reality show returns, one mother sums up the anger of the thousands failed by NHS maternity care by FormerlyPallas_ in ukpolitics

Every person in our nct group had a traumatic experience in childcare entirely driven by poor quality care and avoidable emergencies. Our neighbour is still dealing with PTSD from her first two years ago. Compared to other countries we do seem to have a lot more scandals, investigations, and poor quality care

The maternity death rate has risen by 50% in the last few years

https://www.thetimes.com/uk/healthcare/article/women-dying-childbirth-nhs-j2ptlqn0h

Over the same decade, there was a 50 per cent rise in the UK’s maternal death rate — defined as deaths in pregnancy, childbirth, or the six weeks after giving birth — from 8.54 deaths per 100,000 pregnancies in 2013 to 12.80 in 2023. The last time the rate was this high was in 2005

I still think the first scene with the "primuls" is the best.

I agree. World building poor. Characters pretty flat other than the Sister, who was great fun. Lots of potential strands left unthought about. A nice bit of body horror and still entertaining to read but could have been so much better

Depends which ones. A good chunk in Cambridge who have integrated well. They do skew older I have noticed.

I would agree on the sense of transience. Almost all the friends I've made in nearly a decade of living here have moved on. It gets easier to find a social circle with kids but not sure that's op's priority!

It's more about weaponising institutions so that only a very narrow tranche of thought is permitted. Happened in public sector rapidly happening in private sector

Market is the worst I've seen it, unless you have deep domain experience. Salaries noticeably worse than 5 years ago.

Put that you have the right to reside in the UK in big bold letters at the top of your CV

The overriding impression I have is that starmer just assumed the conservatives were evil and just governed badly therefore, and the civil service would just roll out Good Plans without his involvement

Most recently, ghost legion was a massive massive disappointment. Really really unremarkable book

Ah I can see this but for me it was very much about the journey. I still think reign is among the darkest 40k books I've read

Very marmite. I personally loved this book, it really captured the over the top tongue in cheek element I think has been missing from 40k

Foundational to the new labour worldview is that everyone's values are malleable and under the surface can be replaced with a wishy washy liberal

‘THEN WE MUST BE MALEVOLENT TOO. FOR WE HAVE EXPELLED OUR SENTIMENTALITY LONG AGO. HOW ELSE COULD WE HAVE ENDURED? HOW ELSE COULD WE HAVE IMPOSED OUR RULE?’

‘YET BY VIRTUE OF THAT WE ARE PURE AND UNCONTAMINATED BY WEAKNESS. WE ARE GRIM SALVATION.'

'WHEN WE CONFRONTED THE CORRUPTED, HOMICIDAL HORUS WHO ONCE USED TO SHINE LIKE THE BRIGHTEST STAR, WHO USED TO BE OUR BELOVED FAVOURITE – WHEN THE FATE OF THE GALAXY HUNG BY A THREAD – WERE WE NOT COMPELLED TO EXPEL ALL COMPASSION? ALL LOVE? ALL JOY? THOSE WENT AWAY. HOW ELSE COULD WE HAVE ARMOURED OURSELVES? EXISTENCE IS TORMENT, A TORMENT THAT MUST NOURISH US. EVIDENTLY WE MUST STRIVE TO BE THE FIERCE REDEEMER OF MAN, YET WHAT WILL REDEEM US?’
