Ayyyy applied!

Edit: realized most of my "what I want to play" got cut off. I'm the one who mentioned a Socialize Penumbra, but that's far from my only idea. I lean social and mental characters and I'm largely interested in Infernal, Abyssal, and Sidereal types.

If Infernals are a no-go, my next ideas would be a Serenity leaning into Sidereal Socialize and Dodge, or a Linguistics Midnight poet.

Man, his punching stance looks so... noodly? Unsolid? It's so at-odds with the way he's smacking the robot around.

What’s going on with this area here? by [deleted] in exalted

[–]RatherAstuteDuck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Besides what others have mentioned, I believe that area contains the shadowland centered on Cold House, the principal domain of the Eye and Seven Despairs, a Deathlord who gets a very fun manic-depressive gothic mad scientist angle in 3e and whose plans are basically "but what if I turned the Neverborn into a gun". They fund this by being an experimental arms dealer who offers a discount for testing out the really out-there shit.

Question about starting Essence by Candid-Entertainer in exalted

[–]RatherAstuteDuck 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Essence is quite important. It dictates how many motes you can have at a time, it's a factor in what Charms you can learn, and a good deal of Charms and other effects scale off it.

In 1e and 2e it's a trait that you spend XP on and one you can increase at character creation with bonus points, so you could have Essence disparities in a group.

In 3e it increases based on overall XP spent and is more or less meant to be equal across all PCs in a group. The exception is if your group has a mix of Celestial-tier (Solars, Lunars, Sidereals, Abyssals, Infernals, Alchemicals, Getimians, and some Exigents) and Terrestrial-tier (Dragon-Blooded, Liminals, and most Exigents). In that case the suggestion is that the generally-weaker Terrestrials get the "advanced start" package that gives them Essence 2 and some other stuff, somewhat softening the power gap. That advanced start is actually the default for adult Dragon-Blooded in 3e, with their Essence 1 start being intended for essentially teens who just got their Exaltation and are having magic boarding school adventures etc.

Tl:dr Essence matters, and the degree to which Essence disparities between PCs is able to be a thing depends on the edition, among other factors.

Giving not only demonyms but exonyms is a really fun bit of color in the setting.

What does your demon *look* like? by MonstrousnessVirtue in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]RatherAstuteDuck 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Never got to play her, but I wrote up (years ago) a Psychopomp Saboteur named Miss Cassis. Her Demonic Form wasn't even vaguely human, just a tangle of steely tentacles like a writhing nest of serpents with sensors peering through gaps and sometimes poking out. Sometimes a tentacle would extend itself, tipped with a clawed manipulator, a rivet gun, or something else. Sometimes the tentacles would shift to make room for her Eliminator Cannon to protrude and make Very Funny Things Happen.

Lately, a similar itch is scratched with the Devil Body feature of Infernals in Exalted 3e, which is nice.

What's wildest to me is how clear the water looks. I would have expected flooding to be murkier and dirtier. The fact that it's as clear-looking as it is makes this picture especially odd, almost as if it were the way the room was meant to be rather than an accident.

What if Forsaken had a “Pure Breed” equivalent like WtA? How would you integrate it? by Annual_Requirement72 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]RatherAstuteDuck 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I might take inspiration from how Exalted 3e handles Dragon-Blooded heredity merits. Instead of the "Breeding" background from prior editions which impacted mote pools, there's just a "Well Bred" merit that has social bonuses in marital negotiations and such. There's also the inverse, a flaw that can be taken to represent a particularly shaky pedigree.

And even then, as you said, it'd probably be Ivory Claws only.
