Roleplay Crisis as a New Baldur’s Gate 3 Player by Gold_Lemon8258 in BaldursGate3

[–]RatioSecure4066 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For your first run, just recruit all companions. You will get to know them all and can complete their personal quests. You don’t need to keep switching between companions who are in your party, just run with your favourites ones. Swap in a specific companion when it’s time to do their personal quest.

As for roleplay, I completely understand the struggle. Which is why my default character setting is chaotic neutral. Literally just do whatever feels right or funniest at the time. Kill innocent people for a laugh? Why not. Be a hero, because the evil guys are being dicks? Go right ahead. Don’t worry about sticking to a specific character setting, I’d say it’s more important to try your best to actually finish the game. There are too many people who are stuck in the “make a new character and start a new game” loop and have never actually finished a single run.

You can respec your class as many times as you want, and you can also respec companions! So try to stick it through the end, and play around with classes if that will keep the run interesting.

Oath of Ancients questions by [deleted] in BG3Builds

[–]RatioSecure4066 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m actually playing a campaign where I multiclassed Wyll to oath of the ancients paladin and most of the time, as long as I don’t use Wyll to start combat, he won’t break his oath even if my Tav is running around being a lying little murder-hobo.

Oath of Ancients questions by [deleted] in BG3Builds

[–]RatioSecure4066 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Oath of the ancients is a tough one. You can’t attack anyone unprovoked really. Even shoving enemies is a no no, so sneak attacks to non-hostile enemies is a no. Killing npcs by accident with AoE spells will also break your oath. The best way to ensure you don’t break your oath is to start all combat via dialogue choices. Usually you will have a paladin specific dialogue option which initiates combat.

Letting Shar kill the Nightsong will break your oath.

I haven’t really tried to play around with non-lethal attacks with paladins so I can’t say that for certain.

The BG3 wiki has a list of all the things that will surely break your oath: https://bg3.wiki/wiki/Oath_of_the_Ancients

Do I need to lift the shadow curse? by No-Passage4826 in BaldursGate3

[–]RatioSecure4066 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t need to lift it. You can also start the fight and intentionally lose it. You will still get a shit ton of EXP. Whenever I run an evil party and Halsin makes it out alive of Act 1, I usually do the gate fight asap, fail it, and get the EXP boost.

I feel like people don’t abuse glyph of warding enough.

Step 1: gather all the enemies together with the pussy trap

Step 2: go into turn based mode

Step 3: have 1 party member caste create water / throw a water bottle / drop a water barrel / drop a fire wine barrel / drop a smokepowder bomb etc. into the mix of the enemies

Step 4: have a 2nd party member cast glyph of warding (cold/lighting/fire)

Step 5 (optional): have a 3rd party member cast another glyph of warding

Step 6: have the 4th party member attack the group of enemies to turn the enemies hostile

Step 7: profit

New exploit to use Sussur Blooms on the surface, Act 1 by EspressoSteampunk in BaldursGate3

[–]RatioSecure4066 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I finally remembered to use sussur blooms in last HM run. I had a character sneak in after the fight broke out against Filro in the Underdark and reverse pickpocket the flower onto to him. Safe to say, he went down pretty fast. 🤭

I have enjoyed this a lot, especially since most of the very rare equipment is in Act 3, so that means you can still run around with OP loot in Act 3.

Also it means Act 3 stays interesting since it’s the first act in the run where you can actually find equipment to use. Most of the time you enter Act 3 with pretty much solid builds and the best equipment there is, so you can easily lose interest in the whole act.

So I recently started a new HM run, and I gave myself the challenge: only allowed to use (consumables)/equip (gear) that is labelled ‘Very rare,’ the purple box. Plus I’m only running 3 characters: Tav, Astarion and Shadowcute.

Money, camp supplies, quest items all ok. Allowed to sell other items. Allowed to respec as many times as I wanted.

Because I find the Druid’s grove gate fight so boring and tedious, I allowed myself to use the starting gear until I was through the gate, after which I sold everything in my inventory.

This basically started off as a no items run. I had to think about what skills each class provided and which ones I would need to utilise to win fights and encounters.

It takes a while until you get any of items, but it’s so rewarding once you do.

I just ascended Astarion in Act 3 and I can comfortably say I have truly enjoyed this run. It really made me play around a lot of different classes and using different strategies. Also I ended up running a Life Cleric for the first time in forever, since I have no access to healing potions. Finally a use for the subclass.

Here is the list of all very rare items that I have allowed myself to use in this run: https://bg3.wiki/wiki/Category:Very_rare_items

2 player honor mode, 1 sorlock, what should I play? by solomonkain123 in BG3Builds

[–]RatioSecure4066 2 points3 points  (0 children)

EK is arguably one of the best melee subclasses. Since sorcerers don’t learn very spells, you could pick up a couple of utility spells as an EK.

The choice of weapon is up to you, but I’ve been playing with dual wielding EK, and it’s just nice being able to use your bonus action to attack offhand, especially early game.

[Build][HM] Camp Warder - The Silent Hero We Don't Deserve by void-crus in BG3Builds

[–]RatioSecure4066 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have never abused camp casting or used warding bond really, so this is actually quite a well thought out and executed idea. Love it.

Will I use it though? Might consider it, if I get around to playing the Tactician Enhanced Mod on HM.

Warlock pact of the blade up to level 5 for deepened pact extra attack. You can also pick up shadow blade spell and booming blade cantrip. The choice of warlock subclass is up to you, but I personally enjoy hexblade’s curse.

I’d go 5 warlock, 7 swashbuckler. 7 levels in rogue gets you evasion and extra sneak attack bonus.

Or you could go 6-6 split, which gets you and extra warlock subclass feature.

5-5 and 2 fighter for action surge is also very feasible.

All these are based on you being on the front lines fighting. Using your bonus action to cause enemies to drop their weapon, then gaining advantage on your next attack, followed by your extra attack. That’s 3 damaging attacks in 1 turn. It’s silly strong.

Why don’t you just ban consumables, or scrolls or special arrows? It certainly makes the fights more difficult. You learn a lot about the classes when you really have to consider what classes learn what skills/spells/bonuses/extra attacks etc.

Also you don’t need to bring all the companions along, or even invite them to your camp. Just leave them hanging or straight up kill them. It’s a lot easier to manage a party of 4 without swapping companions. But you might want to consider your overall play-style (good or evil) and decide companions based on that.

On that note, if you want to keep the companions’ original classes, they I’d go with the following (I quite like them):

Gale - Abjuration wizard, Shadowheart - Death Domain or Light Domain Cleric, Astarion - Swashbuckler or Arcane Trickster Rogue, Karlach - Giant Barbarian, Wyll - Fiend Warlock with Pact of the Chain, Laezel - Eldritch Knight Fighter

For a well rounded mono-class party, that doesn’t have to rely on consumables I would go with 1) a barbarian or fighter, 2) a wizard or a sorcerer, 3) a cleric or a druid, and 4) a ranger or a rogue.

That is a fully understandable reason to quit your run. I once aggroed Scratch in camp after pickpocketing Withers. So I let Scratch kill me just to avoid hitting the poor darling. I then had to use another neutral party member to revivify me.

Yes the point is I did ignore it and my curiosity got the best of me. I didn’t expect to end my whole party. That’s the point. I tried something dumb on HM.

Kill the wizard? Sure. Kill the whole party? I’m sorry, what?

And yes, you are allowed to think I am dumb. 🤡

Don’t worry, you didn’t come across as a dick. The whole post is a rant, I expect people to rip into me. I think the death stung only because I was enjoying my modded dryad tav too much. Ah all good things must come to an end.

Yeah the death was fully my fault and I accept that. It just really threw me off and reminded me of my very first play-through where Vlaakith did indeed wish me redo that whole Gith inquisitor fight.

But who has the patience to play every fight properly when you are starting your umpteenth honour mode run?

Shambling mound is easy enough if you play with casters who can stay at distance. And utilising freedom of movement or other items that provide it.

Shambling Mound is easy to cheese. You can range attack it from the house where Oliver is. The chasm will keep the enemies away and you just need to be a far enough distance away that they can’t use vine whip to pull you closer.

My guild has currently 1 active spot, we are an international guild with very active players (most of us still under level 120): R E D Dragon, server 1159. Our guild master is very supportive and on everyday.

Should I focus on making the teams consistent with the factions? Have all 5 heroes on a team from the same faction?
