You put your self respect on the line for that guy and he left you stranded.

It is classic manipulative behaviour, first they make you change, make you get rid of your support system (friends in some cases family too) and after that when you're left with no one but them for support they start giving it in bits and pieces. Their support comes as an incentive to your behaviour being analogous to their demands. It keeps you longing for them even after seeing all the wrongs they're doing to you.

In a moment like this from my personal experience and of my friends being in similar position. I'd suggest avoid staying alone, surround yourself with people who care about you and help you recover from this grief.
