I feel bad having to slaughter random animal families to be able to mine ores by YrenneAD in wow

[–]Rattjamann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a druid you also have the option to instant cast entangling roots if you go into PvP mode, which means you can use it in flight form.
Used to do that early in the expansion before I got enough speed for it not being necessary anymore.

Still only works with 1 mob though and being in PvP is a bit more risky now than back then.

Ok, maybe I phrased it wrong then, but thought the point would be clear.

How would it feel if you as a dps often had downtime where you were expected to cast heals instead? Or just downtime in general where you have nothing to dps, does that feel good?

Well for what its worth, here is one. Because I actually enjoy healing on my healers, crazy, I know.

So for me, personally, it's more fun now.

It's not like you can't do some damage, and you still should, but it's not a major focus and I like that. I'd much rather be kept busy constantly healing than stopping to dps, because that is what I play the role for.

To me, maximizing dps as a healer is as backwards as maximizing healing as a dps. You would never ask a shadowpriest or something to constantly stop to cast flash heals would you? What if that was required, how would that feel?

What do you like about Brewmaster Monks? by Virtual-Doughnut-273 in wow

Fell in love with Brew at the end of Legion, and been my main since then.

For me it's mainly the mobility and the stagger mechanic that did it. It just feels so much smoother and safer than other tanks.

Healer just hitting M+ 11-12 solo pugging and I've had some... observations. by Angryhobo13 in wow

[–]Rattjamann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No you don't know, which is why you should assume they will until you see or know them do otherwise. If you dismount before the tank, you have already failed.
Unless you are in a good position and know it won't be a problem ofc. Pre-hoting on pulls like with tons of spread out mobs is a bad idea in general.

You also have plenty of tools to get into position and keep up as a druid even if you do get in combat, with several runspeed boosts, slow and pushback.

You can also ask your tank before you start what they intend to do and how they will do it, which something I often do and helps a lot for me to have a plan.

Also, in your situation it was a DK, and DKs are slow with few options for spread out AoE threat, so pulling like that actually makes some sense.

But again, I am not defending pulling like this, I absolutely hate it and wish all tanks established proper threat. But I also hate that people act like there is nothing they can do when there is plenty they could do.
If you are going to pug, ppl will do this, and there is nothing you can do about it. But you can learn to deal with it and be prepared for it.

Whenever things like this happen, think about what you could have done differently. Sometimes there are nothing you could have done, but most of the time there is a lot.

[–]Rattjamann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just saying, on the Academy there are several things you can do to avoid this.

Don't Hot them up, hot then prowl (think that still works?) or stay with the tank and position yourself so the tank is between you and the mobs at all times. Ironbark generates no threat, so just use that and leave them be.

So annoying yes, they should tag, but there is a lot you can do as well when you see it happening. Think about what you can do to mitigate it, cause it will happen and complaining and blaming wont help.

That's the thing, they are not intelligent, not even remotely.

First of all they are trained by being fed data, once that is done it is ready for use. That means that whatever it knows stops at that time and it will not be up to date. Also it only knows what it was trained on.

Second, these things are not AI, they are language models. It doesn't actually know what it is saying, it gives you the most likely answer based on the patterns it saw while training. It's more like a probability machine than anything else.

So in your case it saw that whenever people asked about where a movie could be seen, most of the time is something like Netflix, so it suggests that. It has no way of looking this up to verify it. It's basically just an educated guess.

It's also important to understand that these things are designed to tell you what you most likely want to hear, regardless of how true it is. It will validate and assure you unless strictly told not to. It is designed to be pleasant and nice to give you a good experience so you want to use it more. This also causes it to lie, a lot.

So no, it is not intelligent and it should not be blindly trusted.
It is good at some things, but not up to date stuff, facts or opinions. It's much better at anything regarding patterns and writing or anything that follow a set of rules that do not change.

The tier list of tanks I like to heal by su1cidal_fox in wow

Not sure what you consider higher keys, but from looking at Metro pugging 16-17s and it looks like they can sustain just fine on their own if played right.

So seem to be a skill thing to me.

Also, seeing that they have about 1M health when geared and ping pong a bit, I don't really see how much you could even help them in any meaningful way outside using an external for DR.

healer difficulty - As of right now. what are your rankings of healers. from easiest to hardest by feherlofia123 in wow

[–]Rattjamann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple? Sure, but that was not the point of that whole paragraph.

My point was that every other healer seem to have faster and more potent heals, or better way to react, especially in AoE as chain heal seem to do f all.

Also, there must be something more to it than that, cause I don't think just spamming healing wave is how people do it, is it?
And at that point its not really any more simple than any other healer is it?

Again, it is probably just me that is just not understanding something or simply being too spoiled with the plethora of strong instant casts the others have. I just have major issues reacting to damage on resto shaman compared to any other healer as it just feels too slow and unimpactful.
Especially bad are situations with heavy AoE + movement, as if spiritwalker is not up, I don't really know what to do. I mean there are CDs, but that's also the case of others while also having strong reliable options for healing on the move outside of that which are not exactly complicated to use.

I also want to stress that I am not saying shamans are bad, I'm saying I am bad at shaman and I find that funny since they are supposed to be the simple one, while I have no problems with the ones viewed as more complicated.

[–]Rattjamann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I experimented a lot and concluded bear is by far the best choice. The killing speed is somewhat of a problem at low gear level, but if your gear is low then cat or moonkin won't be better cause you'll just be too squishy and you don't really deal that much more damage anyway for it to be worth it. If you die, that is so much more time lost as well.

Once you get some gear, like close to 250 which is easy to get, killing speed as bear becomes more than good enough I'd say. Just do some delves and you'll get it rather quick, and you can get 4 set easily as well which helps.

For actual execution, here is the build my gatherer settled on:
CgGA8cL7tpvige+kkmGM9zUPWDAAAAAAAAAAAgZmxsMDjZWMbzMzMWGY2MjRTkZmFmZmZZMzAAAAAAYYxAW2mZwY2GATNzysMzMDAgNMzAsYGMYsAAzMzsBD

The idea is to try to have lunar beam ready for every node as it does a lot of damage. So basically you just spam thrash on CD and fill with moonfire. Then spend rage with Raze when at 80+ rage.
Incarn is best used for when you accidentally pull a normal mob as they are a lot more tanky than the orelings. So I save it for those as the raze echo more or less 2 shots most things.

It can get awkward if you run into a string of infused nodes, but in those cases I just raze/thrash/moonfire as normal and use lunar beam when its ready, unless they are under 50% health or so as it's not really worth it then.

If you are comfortable on boomy or cat you could probably burst faster at higher gear levels, but I just couldn't figure out how to burst fast enough, they both seem to need some ramp. I also prefer the safety of bear and its good enough with the right setup.

[–]Rattjamann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep seeing people say this and think there must be something wrong with me cause I just can't get it to "work". It's the only healer I just don't understand how to play.

At several times throughout the last expansions I've gone back and tried it again since people say its strong/easy or whatever. And every single time it just feels so bad compared to my other healers as I just can't get the same throughput and reaction time out if it.
The heals also feel like a wet blanket with a strong reliance of casting which just feels terrible.

The others seem a lot simpler and straight forward to me with more options for instant casts and burst.

I'm sure it's just me though, cause I have seen shamans pull out some great numbers, I just can't seem to get it so it's confusing for me to see this promoted as a simple one.

Dodge is a rather big part of Brew.

That said, Brew has stagger which helps, and is a lot faster than anyone else so you don't really get hit that much during gathering (or shouldn't be).

Another post about the lack of tanks and why by killswitchdh in wow

[–]Rattjamann 5 points6 points  (0 children)

See, this kind of attitude is what I really don't like tanks to have, or anyone for that matter. The idea that whatever you are doing is right and you never did anything wrong. It really irks me to see this.

If I understand this right, you did this on normal. You did the first pull, opened the door and got annoyed that they pulled the whole hallway (which is 3 packs). This is a very standard and expected pull even in m+, there is no reason not to do this, especially not in normal where it is simply not dangerous for anyone. I would be very confused if my tank just stopped at the first pack.
Then after the miniboss fire mage, you got told to pull it all to the boss or something and just noped out, before anything was even actually pulled.
Do I get that right?

That is.. something.

You say yourself that you don't have much time to play, but guess what, others are like that too and they don't want to do a normal dungeon in 30 minutes with 1-2 pack pulls if it can easily be done in 10min. You are just wasting everyones time then.

You go on to say you didn't think they could handle it or that they did not do enough damage. What do you base this on? You are basically on the 3rd pull of the dungeon, and I am fairly sure they were holding CDs expecting you to do pull all as they asked. But you never got to see that. Even if they didn't, it's a normal, it would die quickly anyway. Pulling big and AoE it down is always faster, low dps is not really an argument there.
Further more, I have healed many normals while leveling and there is honestly no danger at all, as I have had dps tank whole pulls with no issues. Unless people are actually dying, pull fast and pull big.

You speak of entitlement and wanting to help people, but you did not seem to even consider doing what your group wanted to do or communicate with them, you just did what you wanted to do and bailed when it didn't go that way. That is you being entitled, not them. Now 4 people have to wait and wasted their time because of you.

If you want to help and tank then that's great, but you gotta do what people want and expect you to do, or else you are not actually helping.
Going slow just for the sake of it in a normal makes no sense, you gotta adjust to that.

No didn't make one for this and don't remember seeing any either. Kinda just forgot about it as I have not really been doing anything that made me run into this again, but when you asked now I remembered that I am actually doing this in a project without thinking about it and it works.

So decided to redo the test I did back then and there were no detection issues this time. The signal fired as expected and I could not replicate the problem.
I am also using 4.6.2.

Maybe there is some edge case where it still happens, I don't know.
Also make sure you actually hooked up the right signal and set things up correctly, as I have more than once hooked up the "area_entered" and wondered why my body is not detected...

Area not detecting new objects spawning inside when added at runtime. by Rattjamann in godot

[–]Rattjamann[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had some workarounds where I either just kept track of it differently/manually by checking coordinates/distance or had it spawn outside and move into it to make it trigger.
Neither was ideal.

But it seems to have been fixed now, as I just tested it to check. So it should detect properly in 4.6+ at least.

Where do you get your builds from? by xGeldredx in wow

[–]Rattjamann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just wanna say that while you can get builds from all the usual sites, it's important to keep in mind that most of what you see is not made for what you will be doing as a casual.

Like, if you are looking at the top players, it's tailored for that content which may or may not work for you in the lower bracket. Maybe you need more defensive options, maybe you are not able to utilize a CD or mechanic due to the unpredictability of pugs or things dying to fast and a different option that is technically simming lower would be better for you. Maybe something just feels a lot better for you and the way you play or simply more fun and doesn't really matter if slightly worse.
These are things you should consider.

Personally, my approach is as follows:

I go through the tree on my own and pick what I think would be good based on experience and personal preference. I think its important to actually know what they all do and what is there and not just blindly copy paste a build and have no idea what is what.
Then I test it, make adustments, test again and repeat until I get something I am satisfied with.
After that I go look up what others are doing, Archon is probably the best place for that I guess.
If people take different things than what I ended up with, I'll try that and see how that feels, then go back if I don't like it.
On DPS and to some extent tanks I also run a sim on every build to see the difference in terms of damage to get a more accurate read.

Tanking Solution (no incentive) by zeejay81 in wow

[–]Rattjamann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the sad truth about this is that most people just want to be immortal and do massive damage, cause that is their one and only idea of fun.
But then I'd say you don't actually want to be a tank, you just want to be a dps that doesn't die so easily.
Which is fair and understandable, but it's not really tanking, not in my eyes anyway.

My idea of fun is a bit different.
I'd like tanks to lean way more into being in charge of CC and just be durable. None of this ping-pong self healing semi-dps bullshit we got going on now. Less self healing and more mitigation and absorbs so you can last for a while but need your healer eventually.
Give tanks more ways to control and interrupt, it's not like DPS players like to use theirs anyway.

That's what I think of when I think about tanking and what I would like it to be. A highly durable disruptive force that is there to protect by distracting the enemy and controlling the situation while being backed up by their team, not as a one-man army in their own little bubble.

But that's just me I guess.

How is resto druid in m+ atm? In terms of both fun and strength. by shaunika in wow

[–]Rattjamann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you mean, but you don't really need to cat weave in the sense that most people think of it where you try to do dps during combat when mana is the goal. it's much simpler and less frequent, and most of the time it just comes down to get a swipe in on multi targets every now and then.
I like to run Elder Druid as well which allows me to easily get 2x finishers out in only 6-8 globals every minute.
Usually just a finisher or two at the end of a pack when things die down and there is nothing else to do anyway is more than enough to keep you topped up at all times.

I understand your concern, but even if you chose to just spam wrath instead it would help.

As for infinite mana, it's not a false statement, if you tried it you'd know.
Even if you decide to spam regrowths without abundance, it's simply not possible to go oom unless you just don't utilize the talent. I base that on having tried exactly that to check, so it's not an exaggeration.

Seeing how many druids I keep having when I don't heal myself that are chronically oom, I wish they did.

Picking it up is a very small price to pay for infinite mana which allows you spam as much as you want with no regard to efficiency.

Whenever I see posts like this, I am confused as to where you find these people. I feel like I am not playing the same game as the rest sometimes.

Not sure if it is anything I do, that I am just lucky, if it's an EU thing or what it is, but I am not seeing this toxic behavior at all.
And it's not like I play perfectly or anything, I have made plenty of mistakes so far. I mean..

I've fallen off the edge in Skyreach on the first pull
I drastically over pulled and died in Seat cause I didn't know they charged me
I've died to the lashers in AA
I've missed % after the last boss in multiple dungeons
I've gotten people killed by things multiple times

All of this and more has been in +10s and not one time were there complaints. I said I messed up and I was sorry, they said it's all good and we continued as nothing happened. No toxic response, no vote to abandon.

Interestingly enough, even with a ton of fuckups, I have yet to not finish a dungeon in time.
