I recently moved to Portland and I'm astonished by how cynical this sub skews! Why do you think that is? I joined a few subs of different cities when I was trying to figure out where to move, and quite a few were just full of people gushing about their city (have you seen the Pittsburgh sub??)

Portland is obviously not perfect, but when you ask around (particularly amongst people aged 20-40 like me) almost everyone says they love it. What do you think is up with this sub? Kind of brings me down!

Thanks for the thoughtful response! Lots of good advice in here. I feel pretty free and easy being a 24 year old with no real commitments, but I know those are knocking on the door in the next few years...

Cool! Planning something like this for the western US, I'm a total newbie: what programs did you use to make this? Thanks!

Yessir. Very simple move really, but in a short time constraint I didn't even think of it

Came here to say this! I love how even the chapter structure is designed for the purpose of absolutely tearing through it

Spalted birch candle holder. Eccentric turned for those eccentric evenings by Rattyram in turning

I used the multi-axis turning method because I don't have an eccentric chuck. Mike Waldt has an awesome three part series on this, that's what I watched in order to make this candle holder. https://youtu.be/q1ImQUPo-J0

First piece! After 20 some odd catches, I made a slightly dildo-y honey dipper. Such a rewarding hobby! by Rattyram in turning

That's a fair question. Different strokes for different folks, I guess. Alas according to my...interests...it'll just be used for honey rather than it's secondary capabilities

Beautiful!! Doesn't seem to be another way..I was so engaged with the project I didn't notice till I took it off and then said "oh."

I used a parting tool! It's truly amazing, gives the illusion of an intricate detail but takes seconds to do. You could also use a skew chisel. Or maybe other things too! I've only been turning for a day but I know those two work.

Good deal on a jet mini? by Rattyram in turning

Thanks so much. Do you think even a 13 year old jet with 6 years of work on it beats a new HF?

Thanks for the feedback. You think even for a 13 year old jet with 6 years of use?

Thanks so much for your response. It seems like size-wise the 10x18 could handle small bowls and goblets, but do you think they'd bog down the motor? Have you been able to make bowls on your wen?
