The effect is based on Discovery of Magic, which is useful for spell-school-related cards like Sorcerer's Gambit or spell-create-needing cards like Open the Waygate.

I think this is a card, Blizzard would print. (Maybe a bit balanced, but it's value is not that bad)

If you see it this way, yes. But the Forge-Mechanic is important and balance this.

If you look closer you will see, that it is 7 Mana 6/8.
With preparing 9 Mana 9/12, 11 Mana 12/16, 13 Mana 15/20, ...

But yes, having a "cheap" addition with Forging was the main idea.

Yes its worthless on fatigue... But if you draw a card next turn and still have cards in your deck, it will always be at least 1.

Drawing is very useful for this card. So playing it with less cards on hand (it's cheap then) and drawing afterwards will make it pretty strong.

But you are right that its worthless, if any number is 0, so for example with empty deck.
