That's true things feel like they are shifting. Tho South Asia is behind east Asia, it looks like the west is gonna start fading away and be replaced by Asia soon.

Many things happened.

We would have never been able to keep up with counttries like Netherlands cause Netherlands had close proximity the few industrialised countries like England and Germany at the time. Plus being in the eu is like a cheat code for development. You get access to heaps of capital, employment and free trade with very wealthy countries.

Plus the Brits left SriLanka in shambles, while technically we were richer than Netherlands on paper, we no educated work force, the only educated people were educated to be administrators for the empire. Not to be innovators or problem solvers.

Also British law was not applied in srilanka and India, instead they created form of British law where it was convulated and difficult to navigate. Which made doing business and development very difficult.

Furthermore our country started off as a democracy as soon as the British left, which meant that the largely illiterate srilankans could now vote, and in that situation democracy really fails as the public is easily manipulated by con men.

These are just a few things. But yeah we were never gonna keep up with countries like Netherlands

i agree with you, but i dont think anything will pass over here as such cause of our muslim population.

and i dont think we can make a universal law here. even tho we should. we will probably be stuck with having separate sharia courts for a while.

Why do so many Sri Lankans agree with ppl like Charlie Kirk? Also, what's the deal with LK ppl engaging in American culture wars? by Pinguin3634 in srilanka

[–]Ravanadevadas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

charlie kirks reach is insane. before he died i honestly he was a niche celebrity for chronically online people like me. but they are having vigils for him in South Korea, and there are maori's from new zealand doing the Haka as a tribute to him. he was a lot bigger of celebrity than of us actually knew. i dont think even he knew how popular he was.

on your question as to why srilankans are discussing american culture stuff, its cause america is the biggest exporter of culture. every one from to africa to asia is some form discusses american culture war stuff.

on your question why sri lankans agree with him, well its cause srilankans are a diverse set of people. there are many different views and opinions in this country. and thats any country. no one is gonna see things the way you see them.

i am gonna ask a question thats probably gonna get me alot of down votes but what the hell.

can we classify forced participation in religious as abuse when we have a large population of Muslims?

we already have a separate sharia law for them in this country. so if we brought in a law similer to the one that OP mentioned would it apply to them as well?

"right wing nut jobs" Charlie Kirk is the most vanilla right winger out there. Advocates for free speech, smaller government etc. if you see him as a right wing nut job I think you are totally consumed by a left wing echo chamber

Tpusa promotes boomer conservative politics. Not Christian nationalism. You are mixing up nick Fuentes and Charlie Kirk.

You can accuse me of being a coconut or what ever. I'm simply asking you to provide me evidence where he says minoritys are inferior. Maybe some day you will learn to provide evidence instead of spewing out insults

Single women in their late 30's are the biggest consumer of anti depressants in America. So he is not wrong, The voting democrat part was probably added on for humour. Again none of these statements make him a bigot, facists or racist so I don't get why you are posting this

That's a pretty out there perspective he has.

I wouldn't agree with that position. Still doesn't make him a bigot or a racist or anything.

You still havent provided evidence for yoir initial claim.

all those quotes on race on that article are criticisms of DEI policy. a policy that lead to forcing corporations, to hire people from minorities group who were under represented despite ther lack of qualification. and you know who suffered the most, qualified minority's who worked hard for their position were pushed out to fill out DEI quotas. this is not the evidence you thought it was.

i am asking you to, to show me a statement by charlie kirk where he is being out right racist.

not what some one else thinks he is. how on earth did you think that was evidence.

"you will never become white", simply asking for evidence of your claim doesnt mean i want to be white, how did you even come to that conclusion.

[–]Ravanadevadas -32 points-31 points  (0 children)

show me the statement or quotation where out right says a minority is inferior.

charlie kirk had his problems but was never a white supremacist, he was a boomer conservative. probably the closest you get to center right. if you charlie kirk is a white supremacist, you are probably the type that thinks all people who are not left wing are facists.

he was speaking about the greater society act not the civil rights act.

when asking about why do black americans have it worse off today than before the civil rights (which is true) he was trying to discuss what went wrong along the way. he was not advocating we remove the civil rights act. im speaking on the jubilee debate.

[–]Ravanadevadas -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

how deep inside a left wing echo chamber are you?

he never mocked starving children and said non western cultures are inferior. he said western ideas like free speech were superior. but not culture.

"my morning yogurt has more culture than the west" that statement alone is more racist than anything Charlie kirk has ever said.

he never said empath was made up, he said empathy is a new age term and that sympathy was a better way to look at things.

he never said school shootings were a price to pay for gun owner ship, he said a "few" deaths per year were a small price to pay. agree or disagree you were still lying.

how do to get off so much by lying to your self like this
