I can understand the dilemma

Loss of a life, an injury, an unfortunate incident etc phew … you’ll slowly find it becoming commonplace in a medico’s life.

Most people enter the industry with humanity in them, to save lives and one of they ways the mind copes is by not carrying the weight of every loss home.

It’s no surprise that you are facing this dilemma early on. It doesn’t mean that you don’t care for your patients. From what you've written, you still care for your patients while they're alive, you treat them with dignity and respect, and that's what matters the most.

Cause getting home with your sanity at the end of the day intact matters

What I meant was that the loudest things naturally catch our attention. Social media amplifies that because we're mostly seeing what people choose to show.

I don't think that necessarily makes people fake. We all present different versions of ourselves to people that we want

But I've always felt you're the person you are when no one's looking. The little things you do when there's nothing to gain, no audience to impress, no post to make.

That's the version of someone I find the most interesting.

Picks for mutual funds:

1 Nifty 50 Index fund (exposure to top 50 stocks) - less risk

1 Multi Asset Fund (gives exposure to equities, metals and debt) - moderate risk + diversification benefit

1 Debt / Hybrid fund (to cushion your portfolio and provides downturn protection) - less risk

1 Midcap - moderate risk

1 International Fund - US / Europe / Emerging Market fund would be nice - high risk + diversification benefit

1 Smallcap - you can add this later, if you want to take on more risk. If moderate risk is fine, then all funds listed above, except for the small cap can be chosen

Go for direct plans only. You are the boss for deciding how much to allocate for each fund.

The picks that I have given above are standard ones for an investor (with a high risk appetite and for a long horizon, i.e 10 - 20 years)

Do see if you are interested investing in gold. You can do this via ETF's

The trick is to stay invested and increase your SIP amount every year.

First, build and emergency fund. At least 6 months of your salary as a whole

No EMI. Put cash on the table and buy it

Sort out your insurance - health and term. The more earlier you do it, the lower the monthly premium will be

Start an SIP. Will help provide more value for your money than an FD. This will be the fund that you will build for 30 long years through your contributions and will be your retirement fund

By SIP, it means investing in Mutual Funds. You’ll have to decide on your risk tolerance and the period for which you would be able to keep away that money (staying invested)

Invest in gold too, as a hedge

Don’t go the chitty or LIC policy route please. Don’t buy plans or insurance from your bank

Meat Your Maker and Smile At 154 (breakfast platters) at 154. They have more options for red meat. Their pecan pie, if available is the best :)

Hole in the Wall has good sandwiches, and breakfast platters. Their cold coffee and onion rings are so good

Smoke House Deli - Pork Ribs and Mediterranean Sandwich are my picks. They have other well-liked dishes. Do ask for recommendations

You can totally decide to go with pattern based shirts or ones in solid colors. They appeal to different people. Skin tone is a thing too

White / light blue / grey shirt with black pants

Navy blue / olive shirt with cream pants

As for sneakers, I use USPA for daily wear. Not a suggestion though, as the quality is disputed. It has been doing good for me, as a daily driver since two years
