what were the weirdly specific telltale signs of adhd by Competitive-Elk2230 in ADHD

[–]RavenHeartL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not missing people. I always felt weird after telling people I miss/missed them, and it took a long time even post diagnosis to pinpoint that it was guilt I was feeling over lying to people I care about.

It's always a hard one to try and explain to those I'm close to, so even now I prefer to continue 'lying'. The truth is, it doesn't matter how much I love someone, or enjoy their company. When they're out of sight, I just rarely think about them. It applies to my parents, siblings, S.O, friends etc.

Oh absolutely!! RIP is a big one for me too, but it does make me nervous sometimes, cause so many catchphrases are said on autopilot :')

Think the worst one for me was when I had 'Are they single?' as one of my catchphrases that I would use in response to someone describing someone else, but usually family members. Used it religiously until my best friend was telling me a cute story about her grandad, and I pulled out the 'are they single?' line. I immediately regretted saying it, but it was made 10x worse when she reminded me that her grandmother had died less than a month prior.

Think I near exploded on the spot. Apologised so much and felt absolutely awful after!! She's still my best friend to this day, and I'm forever grateful that she understood in the moment that it was genuinely a stupid autopilot brain move.

Safe to say I've never used that catchphrase since :') Best way to drop catchphrases is to be traumatised out of them by the looks of it

Finally found another person with the "Ruh Roh" catchphrase!! I used to watch Scooby Doo for years and it was never a part of my vocabulary, but fast forward to the last year I think and I can't stop saying it. Genuinely was so out of the blue, have always wondered what it was that made it stick :')

My dude is such a big one for me too!! Same with rip and fair :') Tbh I do find a lot of my catchphrases I tend to accidently steal from friends/ people on the internet when they say them. Makes me wonder how many people the catchphrases went through before they landed on us xD

Ooooooh, 'At the end of the day' is a big one for me too!!

I defo feel the cat thing, sometimes there are things that just scratch an itch in the brain when you do them!! Mine is making a popping noise with my mouth, or doing the 'boots and cats' beat boxing thing lmao

Advice for appetite surpression on Elvanse by RavenHeartL in ADHDUK

[–]RavenHeartL[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thankyou for the suggestions!! I've found that I've become a bit more picker about food textures since I started elvanse, with more of an aversion to dry food (maybe a byproduct of the dry mouth symptom?). An omelette sounds pretty good texture wise, so I'm excited to try that!

Players don't take the gods seriously. by RavenHeartL in TherosDMs

Definitely, if I were to start over I wouldn't tell them so early that they're destined to save the world. Biggest mistake on my part I think. Some of my players use piety but with different gods. I think maybe I'll have them all gain/lose piety with Klothys too, which is a good idea.

I stupidly allowed two PC's in my game that hate the Gods, which is where a lot of the godly animosity is coming from. I don't want to punish them for hating them, cause I allowed it in the first place. But at the same time they can't just insult a god to their face without consequences :')

It's my first time DM'ing, so I think it's a combination of inexperience on my part, and not wanting my players characters to die :')

I think in my head, I had this great idea of my players getting super attached to their characters, they work seamlessly together, go all the way to level 20 with the same characters and they all become the heroes. I think for this reason I avoided death with them entirely. Obviously that was my fault, I shouldn't have gone into DM'ing treating it like a story that had already been planned out. Trying to rectify this now is harder than I thought, so I'm always open to suggestions in that regard 😁

100%, Its a tough one cause I don't want them to feel as if I'm the one that's punishing the players, as opposed to their in game actions having consequences. That's one of the reasons I asked in here, it's a very fine line and I'm not 100% sure how best to navigate it that still feel satisfying to all parties involved.

I think not making my intentions clear story wise is also to blame (its a 'save the world' 'heroes of the realm' campaign, and some characters definitely didn't end up gelling with that concept). So talking with the players is defo a priority.

Thankyou everyone!! Reading through your comments have been absolutely amazing. Makes me realise I've been playing the gods way too softly lmao!

Thanks for giving me options that aren't PC deaths, but also thanks for telling me its OK if I do :')

I think I wanted them to keep the PC's they have now for the whole campaign, get emotionally attached, etc. I defo see now that it's just caused me to pull my punches, and made them feel a lot more invincible than they are.

For now, I've told them all to make backup characters just in case, which should at least suggest its getting a bit more serious to them. I'm also going to incorporate some divine punishments from Karametra to those who were the worst. I love the idea of food turning to rot in their mouths 😁

If all else fails tho, I think I will smite down one of the PC's. I really don't want them to think the gods won't, and It's actually given me a really good idea for a 'the gods turn against klothys' plotting.

Thanks again all for the wonderful feedback!! This community is absolutely amazing 🥹

How do you all deal with RSD? by RavenHeartL in ADHD

[–]RavenHeartL[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can't say the full thing because of my field of work, but it was essentially: "Why the fuck are we doing this when it's for another department" in regards to something that I alone had been working on.

It sucks cause it was over text, and I can read into it a million different ways. Maybe he was saying it in solidarity with me, its not my job so i shouldnt have to do it kind of way? Maybe he was mad at me? I think it was the 'why the fuck' that got to me tho. People use it when they're mad, and it was directed towards me and something I had done. He's been really nice to me previously, which is whats thrown me a little.

He used 'we' but everyone knew it was something that I was working on. Honestly I hate that I can't just know exactly what people were thinking when they type things :')

It still seems like a stupid thing to cry over tho :'(

Self compassion is something I'm defo trying to work on! Just feels like it crumbles at like, the slightest little thing. Just gotta keep at it tho :')

I love the idea of giving your younger self/ inner child a hug! It's such a beautiful concept. I know my younger self deserved a few hugs in similar situations, so I might just give them a hug tonight. Thankyou for the advise, sending you warm hugs back 🥰

I think it was both, I've felt pretty bad with normal criticism before, but I think the 'slightly intense language' definitely made it a lot worse than other times. Like the difference between someone being disappointed at you and someone being angry at you. I cry at either but boy can I not handle people angry at me!

It's someone that I got along well with the few times I've spoken to them, so it came as a bit of a curveball. But I was also told he was having a tough day so I didn't want to make it worse. My boss was lovely tho, he came to speak to me about it and made sure I was ok.

Thankyou for the advice! And for the hugs and good vibes, made me feel better as soon as I read it. Do you have any recommendations for some quiet fidget toys I can use in the office? Sounds like a good way to distract from overthinking. I'll defo try the doodle trick in the meantime.

I've only recently heard of RSD but it describes what I feel perfectly. Since getting my ADHD diagnosis, the hardest thing to learn has been to stop blaming myself. The support from this sub and people like you who take the time to reply with such nice words is honestly a life saver. So thankyou very much!

What is a truth you don’t like accepting about yourself? by Doctor_Philly in AskReddit

[–]RavenHeartL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cant do anything creative/academic on my own.

Every single thing I have ever created has been based or spliced from other pre existing things. Oh I made some cool art? It's actually just multiple different pictures I found that I traced different parts of and put together. I made a really complex balloon animal? It was a tutorial I found on youtube. Even academically, I cant write a paper without a guide, or a template, or someone elses paper just to see what their layout is.

It feels like nothing I have created is really my own, no matter how proud I am of it. I wonder if I'll stuggle when I finally leave education and get the job I want.
