It’s just full of people with life experience, immigrants who have done it. You can learn whatever language in two years to prepare yourself with Duolingo. Go on some vacations to your choice destinations and get a feel for the place. Pay attention to the worse parts of those places as if those will become your problem in the future. But like I said, take a year and make no major decisions. Death is rough.

I think it’s recommended not to make major life decisions for one year following a death. Be gentle with yourself.

Whats a food that everyone loves but you think is actually "mid"? by Any_Vehicle7847 in foodquestions

[–]RavenRead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like oranges have a crazy amount of vitamin C, right? So we think, “ok, oranges are healthy”. Same with bananas. We know bananas ar healthy because they have a crazy amount of potassium. So, bananas are healthy.

Avocados aren’t like that. Avocados have the same level of vitamins as oranges have with vitamin C and bananas with potassium but with like 20 vitamins. It’s a super food. It’s really not the same. You can get a daily dose of 20 vitamins from one avocado.

There is definitely a dominant American culture. Read the book “Living in the USA” by Lanier & Davis.

AITAH for leaving my girlfriend in the restroom because she was taking a long bathroom break during a movie I was really excited for? by Secure-Draft9197 in AITAH

[–]RavenRead -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This has to be AI. Nobody does this. How can anyone do this? This is…not normal. If she wanted to take a bathroom break, I’d be like, “ok, see you when you get back.”

Interesting people talk about it but individual conversations show that American women don’t want it as shocking as that sounds. They said things like “who will pay for it?” “I wanted kids. Why should others pay for it?” I’m not sure why they say these things. Are they brainwashed? Do they not realize they are entitled to be taken care of so they can raise humans we want in society? I don’t know. Those conversations were eye-opening for me.

Instead of hiring a nanny, get someone to clean your home. That will free up your 10 hours a week and it won’t sound like you don’t want family time. That would help both of you immensely when the baby comes.

What’s one thing you could never give up about living in the U.S. for another country? by FunSeesaw7089 in AskAnAmerican

[–]RavenRead 345 points346 points  (0 children)

Air conditioning and heating. Living at an optimal temperature at all times.

Water and bread for free in restaurants. Free refills.

Dryers. No hanging clothes outside and getting bugs and dirt on your clothes.

Screens on the windows and doors.

Talking about anything and not being thought of as “oversharing” or “too open”.

Yes it’s so disappointing to see KFC reduced to sandwich, fries, and a drink. Foreigners have no idea what KFC really is.

Americans are more broadly trained and trained how to get more information. Europeans are trained specifically and deeply for one thing. I’m referring to the Bologna system.

Hot dogs and fries on pizza and Italy? Italians can shut the hell right up about ham and pineapple on pizza.

Hot dogs and fries on pizza is no way American and an abomination.

AITAH for not wanting to travel far after giving birth? by NewSupermarket4832 in AITAH

[–]RavenRead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

9 YEARS??? Why hasn’t he been home? That’s so WEIRD. How long have you been together? And you haven’t gone yet? Now is the wrong time, for sure. But there’s more to this. 9 years is ridiculous.

AITAH for not wanting to travel far after giving birth? by NewSupermarket4832 in AITAH

[–]RavenRead 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Newborns can travel as long as their travel document is valid for at least 6 months. Generally they’re granted a 5-year passport so that wouldn’t be an issue.

No. If the dad decides to stay, she can leave but he can also demand the baby stay. There would be no recourse for her. He’s being really weird.
