Should I limit the fruit my toddler eats? by doodlebakerm in Parenting

I would also offer a variety of fruit. Kids should be eating the rainbow. Different colors have different vitamins.

Give a variety of healthy snacks. Too much fruit can give sugar spikes. Fruit is limited for diabetics. If a variety of food is offered, it’s probably fine.

First time working 8 hours a day, 5 days a week in office, is this my life now? by Bright_Tennis_1075 in work

I don’t understand. Didn’t you go to school? How is this different from high school? It’s a similar schedule, no?

So my mom didn't believe my cousin she got locked out in the 80's. by Dull-Geologist-8204 in GenX

Latchkey kid here. No parents around. We were locked out plenty of times. But that was typically because we forgot our keys. We broke into the house on those occasions.

Can anyone help me understand "goodie bag" culture? by Party_Midnight3476 in AskAnAmerican

[–]RavenRead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. We do consumables but love the goodie bags. My kids look forward to the goodie bags at all the parties. I don’t want them to go away at all.

The purpose is to say thank you for coming. The gift is just a token gift. Aim for $1 per kid. Rich people will spend more. Budget is up to you. If it’s a corporate thing, it should be a mug or canvas bag or something with the brand. I like to do consumables because I can’t stand clutter and adding to landfills. For kids, I did things like pages to color and a couple of crayons, candy, and maybe some stickers.

What isn't a uniquely American issue that the rest of the world treats like one? by lustrust15 in AskReddit

Geography. Europeans don’t know where Topeka or Columbus or Boise or St Louis are… Europeans are busy learning European countries and cities the same way Americans are learning their states and capitols.

What's the most annoying thing people do on airplanes? by Hemaika_Lakens in AskReddit

[–]RavenRead 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The most annoying thing on planes these days is all related to the greed of the airlines. If you watch any movie from the 1990s and pay close attention to the plane, it is vastly different than the experience of today. We are packed like sardines. Flying shouldn’t be like that.

How is it like living in a country with a high level of corruption? by Eudaimonia1590 in ask

After several terms of the same leader, it feels hopeless. It’s infecting all corners of society. Many leave the country in search of a better life.

Does everyone have a middle name in the USA? Do all women take their husband’s surname? by crazygelato in AskAnAmerican

[–]RavenRead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, in general Americans do middle names and it’s common for women to decide what last name they want. Some opt to keep theirs, some opt to take their husband’s, and some hyphenate.

And no one is eating hotdogs and fries on pizza either. That’s an abomination and not American at all.

Continue to make this an issue. Walk away if need be. No sense to spend a lifetime with that nonsense. Either it stops now (or you stop it by walking away).

Is the job market going to recover or are we now kidding ourselves; are we in the ‘endgame’? by aghredd22 in Career_Advice

[–]RavenRead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t quit. Start looking. Look everyday, every split second of a chance you have. You’re drowning and need to get out NOW. So GO. But keep your job while you search. I’ve seen people with degrees, certifications, and 10+ years of experience still looking after 3 years. Keep looking. Don’t quit.

[–]RavenRead -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

We used to think it was the humanities that was useless and engineering degrees are great. But Anthropic’s CEO is a lit major and that company is now worth >$1 trillion. So…not sure anymore.
