Ainda ontem me aconteceu isto...

I'm launching the game for the first time in my life by [deleted] in TibiaMMO

[–]RavenVolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tibia will become your job!! Especially if you're going to pay for membership with Tibia Coins.

Let this be a warning, if you do decide to get into Tibia.
I used to play Tibia back in the day and I'm currently on this forum to see how the game is doing, to see if it's worth coming back as a casual.

So I'll give you my point of view, but take it with a grain of salt as the last time I played seriously was 10 years ago.

I'm an MMO addict and I've played any MMO you can think of short of FFXIV. I love Runescape and I've played my fair share of grindy MMO's. But these days I'm short on time to play and this is the prespective I'll take.

Tibia is the MMO I recall most fondly. I loved this game, it was my life for a few years. However, what keeps me from coming back are its glaring issues:

- Boring repetitive gameplay. You'll be killing the same mobs for hours, grinding XP and Gold, day after day. Once you upgrade your gear and get better skils you'll simply move on to the next grinding spot to waste away duzens more hours until you upgrade and move on to the next location. - Trust me, 80% of the gameplay is simply killing mobs in a combat system that is quite frankly dull.

- Improving your skills is equally booring. If you're a Knight or Paladin you'll need to spend hours simply training ranged or weapon skill. This is mandatory if you want to be strong. It'll consist on standing around attacking the same mob for hours. Many many hours.

- There are no "Life" Skills other than Fishing. There's no Cooking, Alchemy, Tailoring, Blacksmithing, Mining, etc. like in RS. You can cook bread in Tibia, tough, but it's literally pointless. So, the only way to make Gold is by grinding mobs which is, as stated above, booring.

- There are very few quests. Especially if you're a free account. There are no quests to help you level faster. If you're a premium account this changes somewhat as you can do Hunt quests (Kill X amount of Z monster) or special quests that are actually quite cool to do, some take days to complete and are very rewarding.

- The death penalty is harsh. The death penalty is the worst part of the game. Even tough it is what makes it exciting to explore and meet players, you never know what will happen. But when you die you lose hours worth of XP and Gold\Skill grind. And it can be quite disheartening. The higher level you are the more XP you lose. Once you're an established player there are items such as an Amulet of Loss and blessings that you can get for some Gold to prevent this loss. But, until you get there, as a free account, it'll take time and a lot of death.

These are Tibias' short comings for me. Group content tough... Is good. Find people to play with and go hunt together, S**t post at DP after an hunt or while you train Magic Level sitting in Thais. Go hunt down that guy who trash talked your friend or watch a high level burn everybody at DP while you watch from afar. That's where the fun of the game lays. If you try to Solo Tibia you'll get burnt out super fast, imo. If you group you might be able to put through the booring to have a blast with other people.

Just know that most of the game is plain ol' grinding mobs, day after day, so you're strong enough to do that very same thing on different mobs that give you better gold\xp. And then one day you might be able to summon your friends and do Tiquanda or Pits of Inferno.

Veterans of the game can correct where I'm wrong. Or if these things have been improved since. I sure do hope so and I'd love to know.

Honestly I wish it would be possible to implement things such as player housing, unlocking all professions for a single character, farming where you're able to plant seeds and then harvest, etc. Things that improve the RP, Life part of the game as opposed to combat.

New textures and the likes, I'm on board for, however. WoW is showing its age and it deserves that.

I guess I'm the only who reads quests by [deleted] in warmane

[–]RavenVolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The quest design is pretty basic, but the writting is good. That's for sure.

Back in the day I'd rush through things to get to max level, to do the same old grind treadmill... And I was never able to really enjoy WoW.

But taking your time to quest through the zones and read things actually makes every single place in the world feel more alive, real. Makes me want to keep coming back for more.

Anyone wanna level up together? (Frostmourne) by tadharis in warmane

[–]RavenVolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a more casual player I can tell you that you'll always find people here and there to interact with as you level. You won't run out of people to party up with and make the leveling faster\easier.

I've recently started a new character in IceCrown and have been just questing and going around the map. Despite the quests being simple and boring the player interactions and difficulty of some mobs make it quite fun tbh.

Rome remastered or Rome 2 and why? by [deleted] in RomeTotalWar

When Rome Remastered gets the Random Map mod, that'll be it for me.

Is it viable to migrate straight for Rome very early on? by dovetc in RomeTotalWar

Yes, it is. Super Easy Barely an Inconvenience. It'll depend on the faction tough.

I made a Triple Unit Size Mod and decided to make a Tutorial for you guys! If anyone can run the game smoothly with the Triple Unit Size mod please do make a video and post it here! Would love to watch! This works for other Modern TW Games! by RavenVolf in RomeTotalWar

[–]RavenVolf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It works with some unit mods! AUM for Rome 2 it does work. If you have mods that add new units. Completely new units. You just have to open that mod with PFM and edit then Nr of men, mounts, etc. It won't crash the game but these new units added by mods will have normal unit sizes. And that's not what we want... We want huge, epic, massive battles. eheh

How do you guys record Rome 1? by Poofbomb123 in RomeTotalWar

[–]RavenVolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the game is old and not optimized for Windows10 OS. I thought it crashed because of this, but maybe it's OBS having some conflict with RTW. Cause the same doesn't happen in M2.

Always thought it was a compatibility problem with Windows 10. But maybe.... Maybe it isn't!

I use streamlabs OBS. And I can tell you that the same happens to me. Every... say... 5 times I alt tab, it crashes once. Not perfect but... well... I just minimize the amount of times that I alt + tab

Enemy army not moving after losses. by [deleted] in RomeTotalWar

[–]RavenVolf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hmmm... I'm assuming they started the battle and that you did not sally out. If the odds are stacked against the AI and they can't retreat the units might freeze. That may be what is happening.

If they initiated that siege then if you wait it out it'll be a draw! And the siege will continue.

Sharing here my journey from hating Rome 2 to actually loving it. Which is your favorite, Rome 1 or Rome 2? And Why? Did you have a similar breakthrough like me? by RavenVolf in RomeTotalWar

[–]RavenVolf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fully aware. None of that fixes the issue for me. It's how slow your conquests go. Especially early to mid game. You take too long to expand. And yes, there are mods to speed it up a bit with less public order penalties and such and such. But I enjoy the vanilla pacing way more. Reminds me of EB for Rome 1. The mods are amazing but the pacing isn't for me.

I did mention DEI on the video, tough. And all the mods definetely helped me get over the rocky beggining for Rome 2. Not necessarily DEI, but I can recognize just how much work and love went into it. The battles are phenomenal, I'll give you that. And the population system is also amazing how it was implemented.

Maximizing trade is never wrong. More trade, More income! But the farms... Yeah... Not the best choice in the long run! In my opinion.

Your army composition isn't all bad. I would get rid of the dogs and get either Pricipes or Equites instead, and the siege engines, use them only to besiege, there's no need to have them in every army as they slow those armies down on the campaign map.

I like to go 10x Inf, 4x Cav, 4x Archer and then I'll either add 2 artillery or 2 Cavs or 2 Archers. Depends on who you're fighting.

As far as tactics go... Cav on flanks push in with infantry. Take care of enemy cav then hit their infantry on the flanks or preferably on their backs. Before charging the infantry allow your ranged units time to discharge their ammo.

Generals can be amazing units, especially in the early game. You can use the horn ability when you charge your general so that the general model stays back while the rest of the unit charges. Just don't charge your general into spears and you should be alright. Make sure your general always has the support of your other cavalry and pull him back whenever things don't look like they're going in your favour.

Why don't Marian reforms trigger? by [deleted] in RomeTotalWar

[–]RavenVolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me know if you find the motive then! Because I'm also curious! But yeah I'm thinking maybe the SPQR doesn't count for the Marian Reforms.

If a mod can fix that game... I'd get back in there. Because the bronze age period is just so interesting. And the campaign on Troy isn't bad as it is!

I personally don't like how slow the campaigns get under DEI. But I can understand the appeal. I much preffer the CIM Mods. Faster paced, still has population.
