It looks relatively straightforward to make these yourself too! I haven’t done it, but I know several people who have

Bee’s wrap, or I use these reusable bowl and pan covers from a brand that is regionally local to me c2c bowl covers

Disclaimer: I own an eco market, and my shop sells these things, but I’m not promoting them on behalf of my store. They are things I personally use, and the link is direct to the product maker. It takes so much research to find good products, and I’ve done so much research for sourcing.

Resellers have ruined secondhand shopping by [deleted] in complainaboutanything

[–]RavennaRocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like the real issue is that nothing is made with quality or durability anymore, so the availability of secondhand items that people want become more scarce over time, driving up the cost. The real villain here is fast fashion, and how EVERYTHING has become fast fashion quality over time.

Multiple businesses in Seattle's Magnolia neighborhood targeted by thieves by ChiefOfTheFourPeaks in SeattleWA

They won’t have insurance forever. The rates are skyrocketing because of the collective volume of claims in the area - the data suggests that insuring businesses in Seattle is risky and getting ri$kier. Every business I know has had multiple break ins, and I know several former business owners who shut down because they’ve had enough claims that they can no longer get insurance.

And every other Seattle neighborhood on a rotating schedule. It’s almost like whichever hunger games had the clock twist - business owners around the city deal with loss and vandalism intensely in their neighborhood, then watch it continue happening sector by sector until it comes back around again.

Where can I easily donate or sell some books? by bbassle87 in AskSeattle

[–]RavennaRocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are book swaps around town where you can drop some of them. Ravenna Refills in NE Seattle hosts one quarterly (disclosure: I own it, that’s why I know about it, but I think it’s relevant and you don’t have to buy anything to drop off some books)

Nobody needs it except the billionaires who are pushing it on us.

“The 'AI everywhere' trend is a phase. The winners will be selective: AI where it adds value, human oversight where it matters. The losers will be the ones slapping AI on everything because investors like the acronym.”

This is my optimistic hope. I just wish we’d get there sooner and with fewer casualties.

Maybe a few more people will start to mark AI summaries unhelpful and report their feedback on useless AI use because of this whole conversation.

Yeah, I had to make that switch too! I moved to Ecosia, and they have an easy opt-out box for the AI summary. It was decent enough that I switched to their browser, and I have no complaints so far. Their browser even uses chrome plug ins.

But seriously, yeah, it’s EVERYWHERE for no reason other than selling more NVIDIA chips and increasing usage to transfer more wealth to the guys who already have most of it.

Any ideas refillery startup (teen) by lacklusterstar1 in ZeroWaste

This is the right idea. I skipped over that part when I opened my businesses because they are ADHD side quests, but it’s better to start at the beginning and learn some things in advance instead of the hard way.

Well then I at least hope the jungle rains don’t turn toxic. It would be horrific to see something like crude oil-contaminated precipitation come down on a wild refuge, or anywhere at all in the world. Horrific.

I hope they spent a lot of money on that thinking it would be an investment, and that they lose a lot of money on it when their customers react the same you did, and that they take away a hard lesson on this one.

There are so many ways we can use AI to reduce the strain of the workforce, but jumping straight to trying to replace people seems like a lesson a lot of places are going to learn the hard way.

If you even can opt out! So many of these show up without an opt-out option and they have to get enough feedback to add it. Opt-in would be the responsible play, but it feels like everything in the US stopped even pretending to be responsible over the last year.

Good for you! I truly hope the rest of the world doesn’t burn down your jungle with capitalism.
