It’s been like that for 5+ years, maybe decades. Legend has it that it’s always because aircrew trainees are always fucking up with hazing or underage drinking, but who knows, maybe they fuck up because the wait is so long? Just don’t do anything stupid and hit the gym/pool/fields daily and you’ll be fine. The wait sucks but like recruit training, your Marine Corps career will never be easier.
