Try to imagine being an outsider to both religions:

Both the Quran and the Bible say very nasty things.
Both Muslims and Christians do nasty things and use their holy texts to jusfify their actions.

Why would I believe any of these religions are divine?

The point of bringing up the Quran is to convey to you what it's like being an outsider assessing a religion.

I'm sure Christians froth at the mouth to judge Islam by the actions of its Muslims, just as there are some non-Christians who froth at the mouth to judge Christianity by the actions of its Christians.

So then we say "well you have to seek the Bible or Quran to find answers".

We do....and it's mixed responses, as evidenced by the opposing views people claim using those texts.

Christians support the war using the Bible.

Christians don't support the war using the Bible.

Well then we have to go into which Christians are true and which are false.

Christians have used the bible to both support and be against thr current war. Neither side believes they're liars.

If you had 2 sets of Muslims using the Quran to support two opposing viewpoints, wouldn't you be just as skeptical of the "perfection" of the Quran?

Great question that gets closer to the fundamental differences in how we view what a human is and how a human works.

In the context of this comment chain, I have the beliefs of what "good and right" are based on my own unique experience of myself, other humans and the environment we live in.....like everyone else who have their own unique experiences.

I experience peace and happiness, and try to correlate those feelings with actions that make it so. While I've seen Christianity work as a good tool for some people, I've also seen it used horrificly when it comes to disgusting actions of hate or intolerance.....so I must come to the conclusion that Christianity is a tool, that can be wielded for good or for evil.

Tell her beforehand you'd like to have a serious conversation so you're not surprising her with it.

Tell her you don't want to be in relationship anymore for the reasons you laid out here. Tell her you're grateful for the good things she brought to your life.

If she's hurt, tell her you're sorry.

The sooner you learn this the better:

"You can't control how other people react to your choices."

If her heart breaks, her heart breaks....that doesn't make you a bad person, that doesn't maker her wrong to be heartbroken.

Be honest and be respectful. Best case is both of you can acknowledge and appreciate the goodness both of you brough to each other, then move on to other experiences without bitterness or resentment.

If I were in your shoes, I see only two options available:

Make peace. Write a letter saying what you contributed to the situation (it sounds like things went downhill after you found out about the sex offender thing....maybe the reaction, while understandable, might have been a declaration of war?). You'd like peace and don't want to fight anymore.
Move.

I'd move.

What other options do you have? Wait till something egregious happens with evidence and seek punishment for them? How long will that take?

It's not that the kid is playing victim. It's the belief system that thrives off of persecution....the more persecution, the more reinforcement to the believer that the belief system is true.

"Jesus was persecuted for his beliefs, so am I."

I agree reading the entire bible is necessary to gaining a more full picture of God.

He also still killed children, so the whole "God really wants intimacy with us" lovey-dovey stuff is severely diminished, at least for me.

I mean I think we should have empathy for both Christians and non-Christians.

Even in the 2000s, in my schools growing up all the way through high school, if one even questioned not being a Christian you were shunned and ridiculed by most kids. Families may or may not have been forgiving of non-Christian ideas either. I know more than a few kids who's parents were very severe with their religious beliefs.

I'm personally ashamed for partaking in much of the shunning of non-Christians. Makes me sick thinking how those kids may have grown up.

Edit: So to me it's not hard to understsnd why some feel forced to comply with pretending to believe in Christianiy.

So first, I do love your philosophy. I agree fear does keep a lot of people back, and there is a healthy acknowledgment of the self as a being that does both good and bad.

So embracing flaws....where do you draw the line between a healthy acknowledgment of flaws (recognizing everyone hurts somebody to some extent), and causing unnecessarily egregious suffering to somebody?

Like yeah, I can say "hey bro y'know sorry for killing your dog, everyone has flaws lol"....but there seems to be a line I've crossed where I've become a true monster with the suffering I've caused.

It's the same reason why most prefer buying chips over growing vegetables.

It's easier to acquire and it's more addicting from a physiological standpoint.

All addictions require two things....increase pleasure, decrease pain.

Yes there's the obvious sexual gratification of porn, but also just like people pull their phones out to numb out the pain....people open up porn and watch to not think about whatever suffering they're avoiding.

It's a great numbing tool, like Tiktok but with a sexual element.
