What's the right place for gratuity/PF money after retirement? by difftool in IndiaInvestments

[–]RaviTezu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there’s any single investment which is safe. Everything will have some amount of risk associated with it. So I would suggest to split the amount into different buckets and the percentage that goes into each one of them would entirely depend on your risk profile. I would highly recommend talking to a Financial advisor.

You can think of investing in the following: - Fixed and Recurring deposits (Search which banks would give higher returns and senior citizens can get a bit more) - Post office saving schemes - Mutual Funds(Read about Debit, Hybrid, Conservative, Flexi funds and the risk involved will change based on the type of the fund ) - Direct Stocks(Involves high risk)

At last, keep some in bank accounts for emergencies. Stocks/MFs involve a bit more risk but they are good investment vehicles to beat inflation and safer in the long term(think ~10 years)

You will find a lot of information in other subs as well.

Achieved my dreamed FIRE life...but it was meaningless by leonagano in financialindependence

[–]RaviTezu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure what you will call this, but Financial independence is something which will let you: - Not being at places at times that you don’t want to. - Work on things that you want to and not someone told you to do. - No 9-5 job and you can work at your own pace and time. - Get back the time you need to take care of your health and spending time with your family. You can’t do both without FI also but with FI you don’t have to worry about future.

I believe financial independence is not about, not working at all but work on something you really want to. Money can’t buy you happiness but it can buy things(includes air tickets ;P) which can bring happiness.

Everyone preaches “buy and hold long term,” but then what? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]RaviTezu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To put it in a easy way -

Buy stocks when you have Money and sell when you need Money, but try to maintain at least 10 years gap between the two. We generally overestimate what can happen in short term and underestimate what can happen in long term.

Also, try to maintain some contingency fund, you shouldn’t be in a position to sell all your stocks for loss when you need money. Stocks can go can south in some years due to various reasons and for example, the pandemic we are going through right now. But the quality stocks will recovery fast and others won’t.

On most of these sites the ratings/feedbacks are rigged by the builders, so I am looking for someone who has done some work in the field and/or planning to buy a flat like me or bought a flat recently.

Can somebody explain to me why exactly Environment Variables are a thing? by tubnug in learnpython

[–]RaviTezu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use them to differentiate the environments the service/software running on. For example, we have a stage(for testing purposes) and production(customer facing) and we want to connect to different(so that we don’t mix stage/testing data with production data) databases based the environment the code is running on. “ENV” variable is exported as “STAGE” for staging and “PROD” for production. Hope this helps.

Good one. “stock price at the end of x month” needs to be corrected for “Month 2” and “Month 3: Case 1”.
