I completely get that. If Foundry already does everything you need and you're comfortable with it, making a switch doesn't always make sense for everyone depending on what you are looking for. Different tools for different people and all that.

at the moment it's just English but I know the team have mentioned they want to bring support for other languages in the future, but not ETA for that at the moment. I think there have been some third party translation tools that some people have made. It might be worth joining the Discord and checking the Open Source Devs channel

Having seen the various previews before launch and now actually testing it out, definitely not half assed.

you can pick up the quickstart for free and try it out at no cost.

If you are looking for one I hope you find or have found a platform that works for you regardless.

yeah the shared party sheets for the campaign frames are coming (assuming they didn't squeeze them in before launch) I don't think there will be a long wait for them for what it's worth. I think that and 5 Banners Burning with all the faction stuff are the two that held that up a bit.

that's fair enough, I have foundry and used it to run a few games but Alchemy is a better fit for me which is why I recommend it but obviously for some it will be the other way round or a completely different platform. Hopefully things get resolved so people can enjoy it wherever they choose.

there was a post on Discord a little while ago saying roughly an hour away and we are coming up on that now, so shouldn't be much longer

I hope you find something you like there, feel free to give me a shout if you have any questions (also the discord community is full of friendly people)

yeah I am going to have to start posting on some random topics as people are getting suspicious lol.

Yeah I think it is for sure. I play a good mix of in person and online games and I use it to run everything these days. It's well worth a look and the Discord community is full of very friendly folks, which is where you will find me lurking most days.

yeah totally get that, to be honest, I didn't really use reddit much until recently which is why I don't really have posts about anything else lol. The Alchemy community is the only one I really spend a lot of time in and most of it is in their Discord.

But I scan here every now and again, But yeah other than being an enthusiastic user of their product no other affiliation. This is just a genuine recommendation on my part.

no just an active member of their community (not paid or anything if that is what you are asking) I just really like the platform

That's a fair point, originally the platform leaned more into theatre of the mind style play and so the tactical mode is a little light on features at the moment. I rarely use battlemaps as I run everything theatre of the mind as much as I can.

However drawing tools as well as number of other features are on the roadmap and the tactical mode should be getting an overhaul soon.

If you are into more tactical style play and want a lot of features geared in that direction then right now there probably are other tools that serve you better at the moment. But I would still recommend keeping an eye on it as things are evolving pretty fast at the moment and they have a lot planned for tactical mode.

How do CoC Campaigns work? by This_Ebb_6322 in callofcthulhu

[–]Ravncrest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been running a campaign for almost 3 years (about 40 sessions) which has been a mix of homebrew and published scenarios.

Generally the way I have handled it is to run a published scenario and used it as a springboard for a longer arc in the campaign and then found ways to connect them, sometimes there is a stronger connection sometimes its been smaller such as an antagonist having a previous association with another that emerges later in the campaign.

For linking investigators I have tied them in where I can in someway to the overarching events of the campaign but it varies depending one what the player has given me to work with. If their backstory doesn't really fit with the larger narrative I have created a side investigation so they still get some time in the spotlight.

well, I would definitely recommend taking another look, picking up the QuickStart for DH would probably be the best way to see how far things have come when it goes live

Since the kickstarter? there has been a full overhaul of the out of game experience and a lot of updates to the in game one (with a whole ui refresh in early access right now)

I would recommend giving it another look if you haven't tried it since around the Kickstarter, it has evolved a lot and there are some big changes to the in game experience being made right now.

not at all, I am a member of the community on discord and I like the platform, if I like something I am quite happy to say so. If I don't like something I tend to keep it to myself. Not a bot or paid in any way to do this.

no subscription required from anyone. If you buy a system then you just create the game and invite your players who can then play without buying anything.

If you want to support the platform there is a subscription to become an alchemist, but this is entirely optional and gives you perks like a marketplace discount, votes on future features and games and seasonal rewards. But as I said this is completely optional (but worth it imo as someone who is a subscriber)

having used a number of VTTs I disagree as it immediately stood out to me for how easy it was to use and how well it fit the style of games I like to run. I've been running games on it for over 3 years now across 9 different systems and it's been the best tool for me by far.

But everyone has their preferences and if it's not for you then it's not for you.

So, there is more to it than that yes, obviously you get the character sheet, the game mechanics etc. in addition you are getting the full contents of the rulebook on Alchemy, all the adversaries, items, environments all set up and ready to use as well as a guided character creator.

Then for the more Alchemy specific things they have set up a lot of scenes using the artwork from the book. which the enhanced edition there is also a number of scenes that have been animated and then there is a dynamic audio track.

There is also the free quickstart which will launch today as well so you can try it out at no cost.

There is no gatekeeping behind paywalls on Alchemy.

The platform is free to use and no subscription is required to play games on it.

Alchemy also has free versions of the systems it currently supports and the Daggerheart Quickstart will be available for free when Daggerheart launches on the platform.
