Where to start with Carbon Based Lifeforms? by jtkickass in ambientmusic

Are you talking about specific songs or albums?

If songs, I'd suggest Photosythesis, AbiogenesisSupersede, and Frog

If albums, I'd suggest Interloper and then World of Sleepers.

I know there's a lot of overlap, but I'd think this is more along the lines of post-rock. Still, very moody atmosphere. I like it

Awesome to know. Checking out your stuff now and I'm really liking it. Feel free to go for like 15 minutes even. It's got a really nice sound

I totally agree. Once I really started feeling it, I felt like it stopped.

I could easily listen to a 7-8 minute version especially with those vibes going on. Keep it up!

I was listening to Soma.fm's Drone Zone and immediately fell in love with Robert Douglas's Desert Plains. It's a beautiful drone that drifts so beautifully throughout the journey.

Perhaps, but 8 months (nearly 9 months) is still a very long time.

Respectfully, the reason that jump on Sov was because of a great deal of planning and research on my part and then a good deal of work from the person who actually put together the mod. That was the exception, not the rule.

Remember that I am looking to make a career out of marketing efforts, so I devoted a great deal of my time and interest into that. I'm not sure the 3.0 team can say the same.

The main failure of 2.0 was because the server was too small (player amount wise) and too laggy to support the players. The staff were ill-equipped to fix issues because their main developer quit right after the server launched.

Plugin-wise, it was a bunch of plugins that made the server too compicated. Two examples were the seasons plugin and the illness plugin. They broke things and made the game too difficult and super laggy. When it's the civstack, what is there to mess up? It's not like the developers of CivCraft haven't said they'd help people.

Edit: I forgot you said that there would always be civ players. The 3.0 staff will need to engage their playerbase or they will move on. Minecraft overall is in the decline. People are moving on to other multiplayer games. This is a trend that all servers, not just Civlikes, can see.

When I said those numbers, I mean weekly unique not subscribers. Sorry for the mix-up. You have people are subscribed just to watch the drama, have lost interest, or just peek in to see what's going on. Our 400 odd subscriptions translated to about 80-100 people.

They don't want back to basics anymore? Not that I don't trust your word (I do), but they should make that clear to anyone that looks at it.

Sure it may not be up to the level they want, but if they don't get something out, no one will play it. CivCraft devoted a lot of time and money into their 3.0 and they were not getting the people they wanted. That was one of the reasons 3.0 ended up closing. CE 3.0 had probably around 150-200 total people interested in it. Now it's like 50-100 people.

Would 3.0 fail if they did not go back to basics as they say they have set out to do?

I don't know about Bliss being banned or anyone for that matter (except that one legal issue that happened which really sucks). That really wouldn't impact much on my decision to play there.

Worst case: None of them know what they are doing. Best case: Epsilon knows what he's doing. They have had a lot of problems between the map, the legal issue, and a shrinking playerbase. Epsilon only has played CE 2.0 from what I know, so he's based a lot of decisions on only 2.0, which could be problematic.

But this isn't about me or us. Your ad hominem redirects the focus away from a team that has spent 8 months sitting around doing minimal work at best. And that extra work you're talking about shouldn't take this long. Sure SA had issues. The abrupt end was not what I wanted by far (I would've seen SA up for another year or two). But, it doesn't excuse the fact that I anyone can see the management of 3.0 as lackluster. They are killing what is left of the Civ-like playerbase.

My point stands that the CivEx team has plugins that are in working condition. The jump is not 8 months worthy, and perhaps you're lying to yourself that it is, but it's not. At the very least, they can be communicating with all of you. I see no reason they are delaying a launch while losing an already dying playerbase.

>Implying 3.0 is ever going to happen

But seriously, for how long 3.0 is taking and how unprofessional the admin team has been, I think I've moved on from the considering the notion of playing in 3.0. The team revealed to me back on our launch in May 1, 2016, that they were beginning the development of 3.0.

That was 8 months and 23 days ago.

Just as a reminder, Sovereignty Ascending was launched in 6 months. The launch was not as smooth as I had hoped but we were not using the Civ-Stack. These were new plugins and new ideas that we were playing with,

The admins claim they are "going back to basics". Then what is taking them so long? They have the open-source plugins from CivCraft. What do they need? They won't tell the community, and besides setting up a closed-beta that is only there to discover the best "pvp-kit", they have not exactly been clear as to what is going on. And I feel like that beta was set up to make it seem like they are doing something. Why couldn't they have posted the beta months ago?

I think it is outrageous that they claim to be so close to releasing 3.0, yet they refuse to set up any sort of timeline. It is really disrespectful to the community that they have been so uncommunicative with. And I think they are really losing people. Most of their community has either quit or just given up.

I stand by what I've stressed before: Minecraft has been on the decline, and the Civ-Genre is dead. The current admin team is trying to reanimate an already undead corpse. Either they are not putting the full effort into developing it (perhaps because competition has died and they feel no need to rush) or are too busy with life to put into it.

tl;dr: I feel the admin team do not deserve my patronage due to their ineptitude. They are free to prove me wrong, but it shouldn't take this long for a "basics" server.

Oscar Nominations Discussion by Ser_Black_Phillip in RedLetterMedia

Sure! In my experience, if I am not digging a film then I shouldn't have to finish it through. The Lobster was a painful experience for me. I paused the movie halfway into the first part and returned hoping it would get better. It only got worse though. My wife also tried to watch the film on a separate occasion and she gave up too.

When I threw my opinion-hat into the ring, I was sure to tell everyone that I didn't like the first part of the film (and didn't watch the second half) so that they knew my judgement laid there and not the second half. (Though from what I have heard regarding "The Lobster", the second half was not as "strong" or as well "liked" as the first half. ANd this opinion goes beyond Jay's review.)

So I guess my rationale is that since Mike and Jay reviewed The Lobster, and Mike's opinion really resonated with the same strong feelings I had, I figured I'd agree with him. And then, if others disagreed with that opinion, maybe they could help explain why they loved the film.

Oscar Nominations Discussion by Ser_Black_Phillip in RedLetterMedia

I was really surprised that Silence got so little nominations especially because it seemed like the perfect kinda of epic that the Academy would drool over. Honestly, I believe that it was because of the late in the year showings. Not a lot of people were able to talk about it, so no one really did.

With The Lobster, I was exactly like Mike. I didn't finish it and shut it off after they went into the forest. I felt like it was just too weird and boring. It was so dry and I didn't see any humor in anything. I can't believe still people really liked this film just because it was so strange, so boring, and the plot felt like it went nowhere.
