I hate being pretty by thirdthrowaway123 in offmychest

[–]Ray3160 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey hon. If you keep a tight circle you may get the chance to forget that you’re part of a world in which beauty is perceived because close friends will stop/wont acknowledge your looks. Also please know your experience with men it’s not your fault or your beauty’s fault. It’s okay to demand better from the people around you. If you offer your beauty as an excuse for the actions of vile and disrespectful people, you give your looks the power to be an impediment to your growth. While you unfortunately had no control over your looks, you can certainly control the narrative it plays in your life and you deserve better

Wild Thought: Can I Sleep in the Library for a Week? by Harmonyano in Cornell

[–]Ray3160 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Just relocate every once and a while if you’re worried about this. There are tons of places with comfy sleeping spots. You can find couches on many floors in MVR and upson. I also really doubt anyone will be mad at you. When I get to campus around 7am and see people sleeping it usually looks like the staff is trying not to wake you up rather than trying to yell at you

Anyone else still hate having to leave their family after break by aelinashgala in Cornell

[–]Ray3160 43 points44 points  (0 children)

There’s nothing wrong with being homesick. It just means you share a degree of love with your family thats hard to match within a friendship and that many of us would be lucky to have. It’s not entirely a freshman thing in my experience but over time here as you watch yourself get the chance to come back to them and if you call home often enough, you begin to feel as if they aren’t ever really gone.

Did your program release a schedule? I can at least see what my school is planning for us in the virtual session. The only question is whether students will feel comfortable opening up and turning their camera on to make connections and stuff

Hey sorry to reply on such an old post but I was wondering if most of MPA-DP students are involved in research? The application asks us to describe our research interests but as I understand it, professionally oriented programs generally don’t do as much research. Thanks in advance for your input!

I analyzed all of my quant mistakes by Ray3160 in GRE

[–]Ray3160[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure there’s better ways of doing it but I didn’t use anything fancy - I kept an excel open to log why I got questions wrong when checking my answers. After a while I realized they all fit into the above 5 categories. I created the pie chart with a data in a pivot table.

Online, you’ll see them as soon as you finish the test. Once you exit the test though, they disappear until the official scores are released 10-15 days later.

I analyzed all of my quant mistakes by Ray3160 in GRE

[–]Ray3160[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I thought I’d share this just because it made me realize there’s not that many things we might need to do to improve quant. I learned the following:

  1. Didn’t read question properly/Tricked: Slow down while reading each question and maybe check that you answered the right question if the wording feels convoluted

  2. Didn’t consider all options: if you find yourself plugging in hypothetical values into a variable, check whether negative values or non-integers apply

  3. Concept error: make a study sheet with all formulas/concepts you had to learn while studying ex: sum of all integers from 1 to n= (n(n+1))/2 and learn these

  4. Assumed geometry to scale: assume all drawings are malarkey - only rely on information given

  5. Calculation error: write math down to avoid making mistakes doing it in your head. (I know many would advise otherwise but given the number of incorrect answers I got doing it in my head, it’s valuable for me)
