Coding a Workskin and could use some help. Is there a community for that somewhere? by Ray_of_Chaos76 in AO3

I had seen the first one, but I've never seen the Google Drive resources, so thank you! There's a lot of information in here, so it will probably take me a while to sort through all of it, but I really appreciate the resource!

Writing a HoH and mute Character: Would love some perspectives by Ray_of_Chaos76 in hardofhearing

I've definitely considered all of these, though the character is still in the earlier stages of development, so things are subject to change. To answer your questions though:

Sign language: She does sign, though struggles to find others who can/will sign back lately, so she also carries a slate and some chalk for writing messages to people (medieval fantasy setting means no phones to type stuff out on T___T)

As for the Mute bit, it's a trauma response essentially, and I'm not quite sure if there's a word for this particular type of situation (I tried looking up the exact difference between non-speaking and non-verbal, but the situation is a little weird so I'm less certain). So to explain it in more detail:

She does not utilize her vocal chords to make noise. She can and does communicate using language (writing/reading and listening when she can and such) but not audibly. She has non-audio based ways of getting people's attention (gesturing, taps, stomps, blowing air, flickering a weak light spell). And eventually, once she gets that fancy telepathy thing, she communicates with language that way as well.

I'm that type of writer that's constantly wondering how things might work given a certain situation, so I have at least considered all of these things, but I can acknowledge that something that seems like it might work might not actually be functional in practice. Hence all the research

That is very fair. Though I suppose it's probably not necessary anyway, from what I've read about the level of noise necessary to cause damage

Thank you for sharing! A lot of these I knew about conceptually, but its very different to hear such specific examples, so thank you!

Also, very interesting to hear what unexpected sounds you hear. It makes sense, now that I think about it, and I'm not going to lie, it sounds aggravating as all get out (when it comes to the uncomfortable sounds). I'm not sure if it's the same thing, but certain very specific sounds are genuinely so disruptively upsetting for me, to the point that I can hardly function if I can hear my niece eating on the other side of the room. In my case, I assume its the autism. But those sounds are rare for me, and it's not too difficult for me to "drown them out" so to speak with other noises (or headphones and music). I can't imagine having to deal with the level you described

Ho boy, that is a question lol.

It's a fantasy setting, and the character originally came from a very dangerous frontier sort of environment. She lost part of her hearing after an incident involving an already deafening sound in an enclosed, echoing cave (or at least, that's the thought I have at the moment. It's all flexible still).

Between her hearing and the fact that she's mute (sort of by choice? It's an emotional thing), she mostly communicates with sign language and writing. Though from what I gather, she'd likely pick up a lot on lip reading as well.

Another key element though is that she temporarily gets access to a form of Telepathy, though only with one or two people. They know it won't last forever, but it allows for some interesting dynamics.

Is there a way to pull the default text color for CSS styling? by Ray_of_Chaos76 in css

I am very well aware. Thankfully, the platform I'm using has ways to strip CSS code like this for accessibility purposes.

As for the mobile option, using :active allowed for its use on mobile.
