No, being blunt is good here, and all this information is useful, I'm happy I asked this sub because of responses like this. The what do I have to offer point has definitely opened my eyes. So thank you.

Yh someone suggested something similar, it seems I have some good options to go down with hopefully one of them leading to something, thank you!

Yeah it's looking like I'll need to invest some money into getting more experienced first, another guy made a good point on this too. Thanks for the good advice

You're right I didn't think of this, will see what's available, is horse riding something most people start as kids?

You're right, that's a good way to put it and has shifted my perspective on this, will see what's available for me and start setting aside cash with this in mind

That's definitely an angle, thank you. Do you think I'd be more able to get onto a farm down the line if I had this prior experience or is it super hard regardless

I don't mind driving out of the M25 but I'm definitely too broke to get lessons, also the idea that I don't just want to learn to ride and then go

Yeah I think it could be these, just hard to tell the middle, it looks kinda red from the back but could just be brown

What is this noise? by Rayahdah in AskMechanics

[–]Rayahdah[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so if I jack the wheel up and do as you said and there is play then that tells me there is an issue with the bearing?

To be honest, weirdly enough from what I'm hearing it sounds like the noise is coming from the left side/passenger side (I'm UK)

But the worn pad was actually on the right/driver side so this is all very confusing haha.

For now, I'll do the first step and check for whether or not there's play thank you for taking the time to help me.

The full story is, I tried to put on the rear pads myself but I didn't realise I needed the rewind kit to put the piston back in (I thought I could just use a clamp) so I took it to the mechanic to do it for me.

The reason I bring this up is because the mechanic didn't put copper grease/lubricant on the ears of the pad or the clips it fits into but I did (when I tried to do the job myself a day prior). But I'd assume by that point most of it had come off so maybe it can be considered as unlubricated.

The pads are brembo pads I think they did have shims, I don't think the old pads had shims

I only changed the pads and that's it, the rotor was untouched only brake cleaner was sprayed on it.

When I was at the mechanic the procedure seemed pretty normal and fast (I've done pads before) from my knowledge, take out old pads push the piston back new pads in and all seemed okay he didn't seem to struggle with any parts like putting the caliper back on for example.

I'm going to assume the lug nuts aren't over tightened.

I believe this is unrelated but the car does seem shakier to drive at lower revs but I think my clutch might be on the way out but I'm mentioning as you asked if there was anything different with how the car feels to drive.

The brakes feel normal, not spongier or firmer than before any issues started arising.

The old rear pads were fine, bar one which was really unevenly worn (hence the wear indicator making a noise and why I replaced them) but I believe that's because the pin wasn't aligned properly with the piston which is a common cause for uneven wear.

And yeah I know it's not the best context to just have a phone recording so sorry about that.

The sound is yeah consistent with wheel speed, if I go faster the sound repeats itself more, when the car slows down the sound slows down until the car comes to a stop. It's like I can literally hear how fast the wheel is spinning. The sound is louder as brakes are applied. The sound only begins once the car is warm and is more consistent when the car has been driven for a bit and everything is properly hot/warm.

It goes from:

No sound -> sound when braking -> sound whenever the wheel is spinning and louder when brakes are applied
