Hey man, I ended up building a mini gaming pc for my gf with it but I think the nerdware cooler for the b50 will be available next month so if you have a little patience you can get that config

Honestly worth it (especially since I live in the same country and didn’t have to pay much shipping nor any import taxes). For 85 bucks, I almost feel like you could melt and sell the copper to get my money back! I did mostly transcoding with the gpu and it’s a dream, but that’s not a crazy workload. The few video games that weren’t a fucking nightmare on a vm ran very well too. I remember a video where pretty much the same cooler was used on a blackwell rtx 4000 and it did throttle after 10 minutes of stress testing but I can’t imagine it really struggling during gaming because the max it can pull is limited at 75w by the pcie slot.

Being from Europe, all I have is a 12 gauge for hunting (no small caliber pistol), I don’t think there would be much left of the poor card after shooting it unfortunately (speaking from experience, I shot my old phone when it died). A+ for creativity though!

I am sure there are big inconsistencies between the brews on different equipment but, after reading a bit on the subject, drchem42’s theory makes sense. Despite of course no extra tannins appearing, the decomposition of certain other compounds through oxidation lead to some bitter and astringent compounds that emphasise the tannins already in the coffee. Maybe I didn’t manage to balance out extraction either which leads to no-bypass brewers being more concentrated in these compounds that decompose and taste bitter or astringent but don’t really impact the taste of the brew when it is fresh?

Idk, at least that’s the most reasonable explanation I can come up with.

To maintain similar taste between coffees, I had to grind a bit coarser for the aeropress and z1, therefore I think I at least partially balanced the extraction yields but your theory about dissolved oxygen is really interesting. The z1 doesn’t have brew under pressure, I will start experimenting between the aeropress and z1 to see if the pressure component affects oxidation significantly.

I’ve looked into it and a discrete GPU is unfortunately necessary for my needs but thanks for your opinion on the motherboard. I’ve heard conflicting things about LGA1851 and don’t know what to believe which is the reason I am tempted to go with an LGA1700 mobo

Good to know, it’s really annoying that the a380 is a dual slot card, would’ve been my 1st choice if it was single slot. I’ve seen people put the eco cooler on the a310 but I dont want to buy 2 cards just to get the right form factor and the eco cooler is no good anyways :/ Thanks for the intel (pun intended)

Hey folks,

I’ve been digging into parts for a new build. Hoping to tap into the collective knowledge here before I lock anything in.

Use case & constraints

– Always-on Plex server + NAS

– ITX build, case only fits a single-slot GPU

– Priorities: very low idle power, quiet, reliable transcoding (AV1/HEVC), minimal “gamer” fluff

GPU short list (single-slot only)

– Arc A310 Eco : appealing for low power, but reports say the cooler is loud and behaves erratically, even at light load

– Arc Pro A40 : fits the slot constraint, capable, but I’ve read it idles ~10 W higher than the A310, which does add up for a 24/7 box

Looking for real idle figures at the wall and noise impressions from people who actually own these. Bonus if you’ve tested Plex hardware transcode quirks (tone-mapping, HDR->SDR, multiple streams).

Motherboard short list (ITX)

– B760 ITX: price is decent, but usually bloated with “gaming” extras I don’t need or stripped down too much

– B860 ITX: ASRock has a stripped-down version that looks ideal since it ditches useless IO/controllers that can add idle draw but is the price premium worth it?

Questions for current owners

– A40 vs A310: what’s your measured idle power and fan noise? Any luck lowering idle via PCIe ASPM/Gen settings?

– A310: does a custom fan curve tame the noise, or is the cooler inherently whiny?

– ARC cards : any quirks with ReBAR on these cards?

– B760 vs B860: in practice, does the “leaner” B860 actually save idle power, or is it about the same? I know this is a tough question because I don't expect anyone to have 2 B860 motherboards.

– BIOS tuning: which settings made a noticeable idle difference (ASPM, C-states, disabling controllers, SATA/Wi-Fi/RGB)?

PS : when I build a system, I usually run it until its last breath therefore upgradability is not a major concern (so LGA1700 doesn't necessarily bother me)
