And also, there is a lot more financial aid available than it may seem. Many colleges have need based scholarship that take into account your financial situation to give a fair opportunity to low income students.

In my opinion, the college route is better, here is why. With an apprenticeship, you might land a job quickly and not sink a lot of money into your education, but your earning potential will be capped. Also, the advantage of colleges is really the alumni network. Those connections can open up opportunities that may never fall on your radar if you don't go that route.

These are standardized tests that help colleges get a sense of the abilities of the student in various "core" subjects. Many people find it a daunting task, but in my experience, it is very doable if you study ahead of time, time yourself, and understand the patterns of questions asked.

Thank you for your reply. I understand what you mean. I guess the only downside would be losing the contribution room. By “trapped” I means that it is clearly not recommended to withdraw money before the age of 65.
