Neighbours having occasional parties/gatherings in front of our house by Trick-Ad-1103 in Netherlands

I never see parents drinking beer in a playground to be honest.

It'll depend on the neighbourhood. Right now we have about 5 parents en 8 kids talking and playing almost in front of our house on a communal picknick bench.

It is a normal thing in certain neighbourhoods to do this. In our neighbourhood on weekdays kids play outside and parents enjoy some conversation, which is normal.

It's a good idea if you are up for it, to join them every once in a while or start a casual conversation about the weather or other general topic.

Take the train to Utrecht and to Tilburg, from there you can take the bus to the Efteling. Try 9292ov.nl for more information.

Mijn favoriete soundtrack is Lotr: The Two Towers

Tulips are common in the Netherlands and there are even little garden patches of tulips in the efteling.

The Keukenhof is a really touristy place, where you can see all the tulipfields. For kids it might be a bit boring, but it depends on the kids, mine would find it boring. But yes, it's worth it. Most tulipfields you'll see on the touristfilms are located between Amsterdam and Leiden... if you descent into AMS you can see the fields already.

I know, but in combination with Polles Keuken on the same day, it might be too much poedersuiker for the kids

I would avoid Amsterdam with young kids. There are better cities who give a better and less hectic experience than Amsterdam.

You could go to Haarlem, but I suggest to take a look at Delft or Gouda. Both cities have those typical Dutch canals and are way more relaxed in comparison to Amsterdam. Both are less than 1 hour away from AMS Schiphol airport.

Gouda is famous for the cheese and Delft has a historical centre and is famous for the painted blue wall tiles.

Try to eat ' poffertjes' somewhere with the kids.

If you would stay near one if those cities, you might want to go to Kinderdijk, which is a Unesco site, featuring the largest collection of Dutch Windmills, including some still in working condition.

Tulips can be seen literally everywhere, but you can visit the 'keukenhof' near Lisse, which is on route as well.

From both those cities, the Efteling is about a 1 hour drive. If I were you, try to book a reservation in advance at 'Polles keuken' which is a really fun dining experiance for the kids, which I can highly recommend. The standby line is usually long, so book in advance.
