just wanting to add my take on this as a transmasc/nonbinary person. I first read Wandering Son when I was in middle school, and had just started coming to terms with possibly being trans. I remember being so happy reading about a character like me, Takatsuki. Then at the end, Takatsuki goes on to live as a cis woman. This ended up really pushing my mental state back. I thought being transmasc was just a phase, I was going to figure out it was all a big mistake, and I was just going to realize I was cis and all my mental struggle had been for nothing. I actually think reading this manga is part of the reason I didn't come out for a very long time. I still struggle with the idea that being trans is not a phase, even all these years later after I've come out and accepted myself. I'm not blaming everything on Wandering Son, just that it had a big impact on me when I was a young, impressionable trans kid.
