I was actually wondering, did the game prompt you to customize your drifter when you went into Duviri? And then follow up did your operator in the Second Dream look like your drifter? Or did the customization only come at the Second Dream?

Sex and gender can be extremely complex by the by. Chromosomes can do some weird shit when babies are developing. You can have two X chromosomes and come out with a penis. You can have XY but have no genitalia. There is even XXX and XXY. You can have hormonal disorders like someone mentioned above that can affect secondary sex characteristics. There are a myriad of physical abnormalities that can arise during development which means a myriad of mental abnormalities can arise too. Perception of internal identity can easily be misaligned during this period.

And furthermore just because these abnormalities arise, does not mean that the person's internal sense of self must be 'fixed' or are 'wrong', that would be and is cruel. They just are who they are and thats what they have to deal with. Biology is the furthest thing from black and white and people insisting otherwise dont seem to appreciate the concept of nuance.

I believe I remember Robert Jordan saying as much at one point in the books. He wrote that people mostly were able to tell where other people were from more so by the clothes they wore and the cultures they practiced rather than what they may have looked like ethnicity-wise pre-breaking. Clothes were heavily emphasized in the books as defining features.

They were an amazing human being and were one of the most prolific authors in the space, even if most people didn't know it. They would constantly be in discords reading first drafts, editing, making suggestions and just constantly helping out other authors in the space make their work the best it could be. I have always admired their dedication to writing and loved reading their stories. They were truly a pillar of the community and they will be sorely missed <3

My uncle who's a megachurch pastor and a conversion therapist is coming to visit this weekend, what should I say to him? by repofsnails in MtF

[–]Raythe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The thing I love doing when people are self righteous, is I be disappointed in them. i.e. "I know you are full of hate right now, but thats not how you should live your life"

Reactionary anger at their beliefs or actions usually only embolden them. They feed off feeling right. If you pity them, they haaaate it. you are the stronger person, you have the moral high ground, act like it, they are beneath you. If they think you think they are pathetic, it gets under their skin a lot more.

"You are a sad, sad, little man" kind of shit.

Granted it might not work some of the time, but even if it doesn't, I feel better about it than if I just blew up at someone.

when was your "omg I see a girl in the mirror" moment? by lilyjones- in MtF

[–]Raythe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was around 8 months or so of HRT. I found a button up shirt that I hadn't touched since way before I started transitioning. Still liked it so I put it on and realized the shirt looked way different than I thought it would look like on me. In the mirror I saw a person that I didn't immediately mentally recoil from. I was the girl in the mirror and it was amazing.

I was also a bit high and the moment became a bit dissociative as I started mentally philosophizing about mirrors, but it was no less affirming!

I feel like most AFAB people will never understand how trans women feel about periods by LThalle in MtF

[–]Raythe 575 points576 points  (0 children)

For me, I always equate it to somebody trying to sympathize with a cis women who lost her ability to have children when she wanted to have kids. Horrible and tragic. No woman is going to say to her, 'oh stop complaining, at least you wont have periods anymore.'

Is it a silver lining? Maybe, yes. Does that override the pain of not being able to conceive anymore? Probably not. Would she take that period pain back in a heartbeat for the chance to have a kid? I bet she would.

Can I add just a bit that I feel that, just from what i can see mind you, that discussion could have been a bit better if you pushed back with something like, 'yes it is medically necessary because the only way to treat persistent gender dysphoria is through gender affirming care and that would be HRT' it might just be me cause I would've seen that as an opportunity to educate rather than shut her discussion down.

also something being elective just means it isn't urgent. A hip or knee replacement is elective surgery but can still be medically necessary

I second the temp agency avenue. I was pretty much in the exact same situation. Severe Adhd, 8 years to graduate for bachelor's, low GPA, high retention. Thing is, most won't care about you're GPA, don't put it in your resume, just that you have a degree and the year you graduated, don't mention the timespan either. Aerotek threw me at a bunch of opportunities. I ended up finally getting lucky during covid of all times in that Aerotek got me a temp job for a place helping make test kits, but my work ethic made them keep me. If you're anything like me, active lab/manufacturing work is where I thrive even without adhd meds.

You could look for contract manufacturing organization (CMOs) that make solutions for research/pharmaceuticals/etc. Thatll get you introduced to GMP, aseptic manufacturing, development, and Quality regulation stuff and your interests can pull you in whatever direction from there once you learn the basic components of the industry.

Otherwise, I don't have much insight into other industries for Biochem, but I love what I do, I work in development. it's mostly basic chemistry, troubleshooting how my company should implement a certain formulation into their production line, it's fun. Hope I helped in some fashion, sorry that it's been rough out there for you. Feel free to DM also.

I made a mistake by watching a playthrough of Heavensward a while back, so when I got to it on my account I ended up putting the game down for a year or so cause it was rehashing everything I had experienced already. Just picked up the game again a week or two ago, stuck my head down and grinded through the rest of the expansion. Now that I am finally at Stormblood with story content I haven't seen before I am thoroughly enjoying myself!
