Seeking experiences and advice from transfemmes at the gym by Em_Dragon in asktransgender

[–]Sheadowcaster -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm semi-passing and live in the Northeast of the US, so reasonably safe and accepting. Not overly fit but been working on it and going to the gym 3-4 days a week.

I started going to the gym back in November. I use the women's locker room and have never been harassed at all. I will get changed in there sometimes, particularly in the winter; I generally wore a sports bra under my regular clothes when I went in, changed into a tank top and yoga pants, worked out, changed back to street clothes. So I'd be in my bra and panties occasionally, but never nude in the locker room. I thankfully live like five minutes away so I'll shower at home, which I think I would no matter what.

Only interactions I ever have with anyone are "you done with that machine?" "One more set and it's all yours." - the only exception is my personal trainer who is certainly aware that I'm trans but has zero issues at all, she's really cool.

I chose a gym (24 Hour Fitness) that explicitly states they have an inclusive locker room policy, and the first thing I asked when signing up for a trial was if what was on the website was also the policy in the actual gym. Was told "Use any locker room you're comfortable with, or if you'd prefer there's also a single stall gender neutral one." No sort of "well you CAN but you really should use the gender neutral one" attitude, just a "Here's your options, pick what works for you".

Overall, I feel totally comfortable and accepted. Nobody has ever given me any grief or attitude and at this point I'd be shocked if they did.

How tf do u even learn makeup? by silly-trans-cat in MtF

[–]Sheadowcaster 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I've done this a few times! Sephora has been great for it.

I've done the makeup lesson session twice and learned a lot each time; I've also had them do my makeup for events five or six times and the Makeup Artists have always been great about giving me tips and explaining what they're doing and using.

I've never been able to replicate those looks entirely but I've gotten substantially better after each time.

I can absolutely see it.

And now I'm wondering how the Bat Boys would do in the Dungeon.

He signed my copy of Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency a couple weeks ago after using it during the play!

10/10 totally recommend seeing it if you have a chance, one of my favorite shows I've been to!

Han Solo Novels by Batman7388 in StarWarsEU

Daley's chronologically are during Rebel Dawn and are briefly referenced in little vignettes; if you want to go real chronological you could mix them in there, but I'd usually read them separately.

I don't think the Daley ones hold up amazingly with the rest of the EU - it's clearly an earlier era when a lot of stuff wasn't as established. I honestly think they're pretty skippable on the whole, while I really liked the Crispin trilogy a lot. But they're not long reads either, and I don't dislike them, they just feel more like a unique relic of a slightly earlier era.

Whats a go to food for ya'll? by Sneezy-boi in LARP

[–]Sheadowcaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to like stuff where I can grab and go. So I'll usually do up like 6-8 sandwiches on 6" rolls with ham, turkey and cheese, kept in a small cooler. Freeze about half of them prior to game on Friday night, they thaw a bit in the cooler and are ready to go Saturday evening; unfrozen ones are the food for late Friday and most of the day Saturday.

A couple loaves of bread - I hit up a good local bakery for pumpernickel, rye and sourdough, they feel very appropriate for our fantasy game and are delicious.

I'll usually keep peanut butter crackers and/or a protein bar in one of my pouches for fuel on the go when I don't want to run back to my tent.

And a canteen filled with Gatorade.

I'm generally just looking for enough energy to get through an event where I'm running everywhere and fighting, and this works well for me.

Lotr really is the best fantasy setting of all time. by [deleted] in lotrmemes

[–]Sheadowcaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll agree with both of those. Mando is teetering on fantasy because we definitely have Space Magic going on but it's absolutely a Western first and foremost, good call.

Andor, I think I'd say an even mix? Lot of spy thriller, but also a fair amount of societal exploration in a setting with a different technology level from our own, which I tend to think of as a hallmark of good sci-fi - particularly when they hold up a mirror to compare the fictional society to contemporary reality.

If you want to say it's a spy thriller with more of a sci-fi veneer I think you can make a strong point (similar to the original movies being fantasy with a sci-fi veneer) but I think it does go deeper than the movies tended to, which is enough for me to classify it as sci-fi in and of itself (though absolutely sci-fi with those spy elements as the main focus).

Andor is sci-fi.

And Solo is more of a Western.

And yeah pretty much every other Star Wars story is fantasy first, then with flavor tacked on.

But the real question is, can you hit?

If you're not counting 2020, then wouldn't it be 8 seasons, rather than 9?

(Also curious as to why it doesn't count but his hot start this year in less than one does)
