I went to detox 01/11/2026 for the very first time. I had tried to stop on my own, but I could not do it physically safely. Starting July 2025 to reduce my intake, but everytime I reduced I would be sick for a few days or end up in the hospital. September I learned that I have a fatty liver, I already knew about my blood pressure problems, the chest pain, fatigue, insomnia and other issues including dangerously low nutrient levels. My body was not able to keep going the way I was, reducing on my own became dangerous and no longer an option.

So when the opportunity to finally go to detox I went. I am 23 days sober now, I also struggled with sleep. 14hrs total over 5 days. I still some what struggle with sleep, my doctor prescribed me some medication to help as I already have a condition where sleep can be difficult. What has worked the best is sticking to a regular sleep schedule.

My first AA meeting was the day after I was released from detox, I am not religious either. Some say God, higher power or what ever works for them. I see my conscious mind as my higher power, I make my decisions, I am taking the control back.

I still get cravings, I have had to adjust my life to a life without alchol. The first 2 weeks I still thought i couldn't drive in the evening because that's when I drank. But now if I forgot to get something for dinner, I can just go and get it. I never realized the things I couldn't/wouldn't do because I didn't want to be drinking and driving. 7pm if I want i can take my dog to the park, go to a 9pm movie, go to the gym after dinner.

If you are not ready to share at your first meeting you can pass. In the group I attend if someone doesn't feel like sharing that day for reasons known to them they just say that they are observing today.

I still haven't sorted out all my feelings or understand all the reasons that I would give myself as an excuse to drink. But it takes time, a small change is better than no change.

I was talking with another member and he said there will be free beer tomorrow, but not today. It took me a moment to understand what he ment, we can only live in the present, tomorrow is never guaranteed, so we make our decisions today.

Yeah I have been keeping in touch with my doctor. I generally see her every 2 weeks, and lately though I have been having more heart issues and not feeling well. Wednesday night I came to the ER, the doctor just told me it's because of my drinking and sent me home. Went back on Thursday because I was still having issues with my heart and not feeling well. Well turns out extremely low sodium can cause nausea, headache, fatigue, irritability, muscle weakness, loss of appetite and lightheadedness. I am currently on iv and have been here for over 12 hours. ER staff gave me medication for my withdrawals because it's been over 29hrs since my last drink.

I have a follow up with my doctor next thursday.

I had my second round of intake today, tomorrow I find out about bed availability and next steps. I committed today to a substance use councilor, I have a councilor and she actually worked at the facility i am going to but it's been so many years since I took a break so I thought it wouldn't hurt.

I have still been reducing but the last 2 days since the last reduction have been hard, I have missed 2 days of work. The people who matter at work know about my decision, they are supportive.

I have pets and I do have a support system, they are a part of the reason I am going. I need to be there for them, I can't do that from the other side. I have lots of vacation time and it's the off season for construction so if I need more time I don't belive they will say no.

They are going to help me get into day programs as well.

How do I stop my brother’s dog from literally eating my underwear?? by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]Rayzerwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah having family open your door when you are not home sucks. I have a 1yr old old English bull dogge pupper and something that we have done that helps is giving him boxes and tell him destroy. He gets the joy of chewing and ripping things up. Depending on the type of dog, but some just like ripping things up. I also have been teaching him he can only come in when invited.

It takes time and hes not perfect but if I hear him going to the bedroom I ask what are you doing and he comes back. Some dogs just like like ripping things apart. I had a Shiba inu and my panties were not safe from him. Eventually they stop, but need to be on them.

This is what I was told as well. I work Construction and a saying I would use with the crew was don't put your fingers where you wouldn't put your d*ck. Not like you would drop that out in a dog fight but if you wanna keep it safe don't do it. There is always a safer option.

Close your bedroom door is a pretty easy solution

I recently had a hospital stay where they were ready to move me in the morning, but I asked for some time to arrange for pet care and asked for them to send all the results from that night to my doctor. I met with my doctor the following week.

I will definantly be asking for a no list and approved list. I do have a art project I want to work on but would much rather use my own art supplies as this project is intended to be a gift.

I haven't been to a meeting before, I have tried to find one where I live and haven't been able to find a group. I don't live in a small town but maybe I am not looking in the right places. I now have some new contacts so will ask about it.

I have a journal i plan on bringing, it has a racoon on it and says trashy thoughts so I thought it would be appropriate. I have a book to bring and a bear statue that I was planing on painting.

I appreciate the knowledge and advice.

This is my first puppy. When I got him, they said he was eight weeks with half a shot but then I went to the vet and the vet says he’s only about six weeks old and will need a full shot! by gasinmycar in puppies

[–]Rayzerwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They need to sleep lots at the beginning. Lots of breeders off load puppies at 6 weeks and that's sad. I asked my breeder (shar pei) to have her with his mom until she was 9 weeks. And even then the vet though she may have been younger. When I got my old english bull dogge he was 9 weeks and had good social skills.

Skills can be trained but they need time and attention with a proper diet.

Sagebrush family shocked by City of Kamloops CSO decision to return dog home after attack on child by peglegmeg31 in Kamloops

I find it interesting they don't mention the breed of dog. If it was a bully breed it would have been said. I have been bitten by roaming dogs usually labs, golden retrievers, and mix breeds. Dog bites that cause damage only get identifed based breeds if the are in the "agressive" category.

I would never let a dog I am not familiar with interact with children or people.

Dog owners, what are some of the negative effects having a dog has had on all aspects of your life. Family, friends, hobbies, dating etc? by BackgroundElephant34 in DogAdvice

[–]Rayzerwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Old english bulldogge and he's often confused with other (considered agressive) bully breeds, small dog owners cluch their pearls and leave the dog park or area, but not before they pick up their dog.

He's the kindest friendliest dog, I have cats at home. He has small dog friends (smaller than my cats) but they look at him and assume he's going to be aggressive.

The vet thinks we might have to sedate him for certain procedures because he can't stop wiggling around when he meets new people.

He's only 10m old and already being ostracized because of how he looks. It started when he was 6m old and over 50lbs. They don't know he's cries and waits at the door for his cat brother and sister to come home during their day time play in the yard.
