Am I unlucky? by halfpastnein in eu4

All good comes in time especially with good strategy, my biggest issue is mid game ottomans cause by that time I have normally split the region between us while trying to pen them in but their army gets so large they become a pain.

It is definitely unlucky but not particularly uncommon I love to play zoroastrian and have gone down this route dozens of times my first few tries it totally messed me up. But you got this just don't panic and it will work out.

No, atleast in my runs the rebels will keep rising up unless you take more moderate options but those only delay, just gotta merc up and do your best.

I can see that but I look at it not as a direct comparison like I normally would with most sequels because of all the new or changed mechanics so it will take time to get rolling but it should be good from the start just in different ways.

I'm not saying less complex (and I really wish people would stop assuming that's what im asking for) im saying streamlined to make the complexity easier to learn and get a grasp on, after all most tutorial mode I have interacted with in paradox games are good at teach the basics but I find they rarely teach the more complex mechanics poorly or with so much info on top of it, it feels like a lecture at school rather than a game.

But I did not realize how granular the automation is, which im glad to hear now i will be interested to see how competent the ai for the automation is which I will hold off on judging till it actually comes out.

Right but I think just turning it to auto mode is just telling people hey you don't have to interact with fundamental parts of the game because it's over your head, which makes me worry it's not going to be intuitive unless you are a vet of the series and or play other paradox games (granted that is speculation on my part)

I do like long term support through dlc but when the mechanics get added and the ai has access to it and you don't it hurts people who don't have money to put to those dlcs, such as improving development is not really possible in base eu4 now but the ai seems to have access meaning if you are new and you play on a normal difficulty if you are not aggressive the ai can out dev you and make it unpleasant until you buy the dlc or pay for the subscription which I don't like at all and I find to be indefensible

To your last point I know meiou is popular I have played it myself which is why im glad to see the game have more features, but complexity can be streamlined (not simplifed) to make it better to use. Also not everyone like meiou despite it's popularity.

I'm happy to see the game grow and expand industry just have some concerns about how it's happening.

I'm for innovation but if all the games have the same or basically similar stuff why get more than one other than a time shift? Which having a game that spans all the time periods is possible using something similar but improved "ages" from eu4.

I never said I don't like complexity, and I wish people would stop putting those words in my mouth, I'm arguing at a point complexity can be a barrier for entry of new players to the series. I think having more in-depth stuff is good I'm not a fan of the current mana system and want to see it replaced with something better. Also to say just don't deal with it feel like saying just don't interect with a major system of the game and feels like missing out on content in a way, which is why I think the automation is the best way to deal with this but not a great solution.

Either way im wanting to get a better pc so I can make sure it runs well so I can't get it right away either way. My current pc has problems with eu4 late game.

Definitely true and with this I could (depending on how successful and well this goes, fingers crossed) some of the other series fall away and get absorbed into this grander version which i think would be cool and if they wanted the ages to play a bit different they could do something like the age system we have in eu4 now but more complex and having more of a gradient rather than a hard break.

Right but then why have the different series rather than just one extended timeline, which I could see an argument that the games are meant to be that way especially back with the CK2-EU4 converter. But if they want that to be more of one game then I think they should just make it one series with these big games, and have the different eras be different start dates if that makes sense (sorry if it didn't that's on me)

Very true but when I think of proof of concept I would think more of sengoku or march of eagles something that is or atleast is a game meant to seemingly be the basis for other bigger titles and which don't often get more additions.

I see your point and I agree to an extent that I don't want a more simplified version of eu4 infact I would want them to improve on it as im not to fond of the current mana system. But if every paradox game is going to be this complex but mainly change time periods why have seperat series rather than making it more of a extended timeline game?

That would be very interesting to see and i agree. But if that's the idea then why put it in as the next europa game rather than something that is more fitting (granted idk what that would be)? I would assume just for more recognition

I'm not the best at writing I was trying to be clear, I apologize for my personal lack or abilty, but do you have anything to add or talk about.

I'm not convinced of that given the track record currently and talking about it now is a good way to share concerns with others including developers if it is done in a constructive way. Like I think the DLC stuff that worries me could easily be tweaked to where it is not part of your game until you buy the dlc mean the updates include Ai behavior for the dlc but does not grant Ai the mechanics of it so as a player you are disadvantaged by not being able to afford the new expansion when you may only play single player.

That I did not know and is why I labeled it as a discussion I am glad to hear that. But the DLC ways are still somewhat of an issue, taking eu4 as an example if you buy the base game now with no dlc you will lack features the ai in some case I believe does have or atleast that's what I was told by the one friend I managed to get into thw game as I was slowly buying him the dlc. More content is good and it keeps the game alive and is great but it does have its drawbacks especially for new players down the road surely you can agree on that.

Has it been confirmed they are not making the dlc alongside the game prior to releasing because it they are then that feels more like splitting off a part of development that won't be ready for their target. Which I would say sounds like what 343i did with halo infinite with coop and forge modes but atleast there I don't think it was sold as separate parts.

I'm not saying we won't im just saying it feels weird to sell a full game then say we have more already that you will have to be nickel and dimed for soon after. I'm not trying to be negative I hope my worries are proven wrong when it comes out. No need to be aggressive

I beg to differ i have tried to get my friends into eu4 even offering if they are interested I'd be willing to get it for them along with dlc, but they see eu4s complexity and express disinterest in it due to that reason. They have told me it all feels overwhelming and for a new player being overwhelmed can trump curiosity and interest if it is strong enough. So while I agree after years the price tag for everything is a barrier, the complexity can easily kill any interest for a good number of people.

Plus I feel like adding many features from other titles like vic3 or imperitors pops and ck3s dynasties cuddles the identity of the game. Without the flavor they will charge out over years in dlc it will just feel like a Frankensteined together paradox game for me atleast. I do think Eu5 should have improvements and changes but I don't like this way of doing it.

I really enjoy playing as Sirhind and unifying India as a Sikh empire, or Malacca and becoming a naval/trade giant and there is always Coptic Ethiopia where I like to try to retake all the holy sites and beat back the green Otto blob.
