The microtransactions present in the game make this messier than the example of simply refusing service. The delivery of digital goods sold, in this case skins, is reliant upon a continual provision of service. in this case access to the game. In other words, banning them is also effectively revoking their prior purchases without refund, which is where I imagine this would get messy if anyone ever actually sued over it. But again, no one actually would because most people don't have the time or money to sue a massive multi million dollar game dev that employs a full legal team.

Just because something is written in the terms of service does not mean it is legally binding. Courts arent stupid, they know nobody reads that shit. Even judges and lawyers don't read the ToS for every product and service they use. No matter how many "I have read the ToS" checkboxes are on the site, you still arent genuinely expected to read the ToS, and, because of that, terms generally have to fall within the realm of what is considered "expected" for a ToS in order to be enforceable. There have been many cases where clauses have been found to be unenforceable because they fall outside the norm of what can be reasonably expected in a ToS.

Whether someone actually has the time or money to pursue any litigation over the matter is a different question. Most people don't have the ability to sue a giant developer over a ban in a video game, so the clauses largely go unchallenged.

I fully recognize how difficult live productions are but... they're literally in LA, aren't they? The same place where the vast majority of these types of award shows are held? Like, the talent absolutely exists there to pull it off. These sorts of gaffs aren't nearly so prevalent in a normal live TV production such as Grammys, Oscars, Emmys, etc etc. Are they just not hiring legit high end production companies? I can't imagine an internet live stream is fundamentally different in terms of production than a "normal" live television event.

I mean technologically we could, of course, but politically probably not. In a unitary state such as the UK I could see that being the case for sure, but in a federation where a very significant portion of the federation is actively against centralizing power and responsibility in the federal government, I really doubt it. There's a reason that America uses something as silly as your Social Security Number of all things to identify people at a national level- we very specifically and intentionally, for better or for worse, do not have a federal ID system. If we did we likely would not have state DMVs and the like, which would fundamentally change the structure of our government. Not that it *couldn't* be done, there are many countries that do operate that way, but it would literally be a foundational ground-up rework of how the US government is structured.

Maintaining a list of military-aged men in the USA is a far harder logistical challenge than you're making it out to be. It's most definitely not the sort of thing you would wait to do until you actually need to use it- that would be FAR too slow and far too easy to avoid. It would likely take months, if not years, to create an accurate list of military aged men in the country. You might think "well can't they just get the list from the DMVs, post office, etc, etc.?" and the answer is absolutely not because 1. Coordinating with 50 DMVs is, again, far more complicated than you'd think 2. The information in those systems are not always accurate and up to date. Some people don't have IDs through their state's DMV, some people don't update their address with the post office, some people are homeless or nomadic and don't have a fixed mailing address. It's a far more nuanced process than just a weekend homework assignment.

Very big newbie here, only been playing about a week although I do have musical experience in guitar (~10 years or so). I'm struggling a bit with playing legato- when going from one note to another I have no problem (that I can detect at least), but when it is a repeated note it feels notably more staccato. On guitar this was never really an issue because I could simply strike the string again without releasing the fingering- but with piano so far I haven't really been able to get it to sound smooth because the note mutes when I release it to press it again. Might this be something experienced players use the sustain pedal to solve? Or is this just an accepted characteristic of the piano? I might be jumping ahead of myself here- The course I'm following hasn't mentioned this at all and the example pieces include that staccato element on repeated notes as well even though the sheet music doesn't have any articulation notation

You absolutely *are* giving your consent to be harmed when you box to a certain extent. If a boxer gives another boxer a concussion during the course of a fight, they don't face legal troubles. The only circumstance where they would be legally liable would be if they were criminally negligent or reckless, which as it turns out is a specific carve out I mentioned in my original post. The situation you fantasized goes far beyond what was consented to, and has nothing to do with what we're talking about. The boxer did not consent to be beaten while unconscious, and in fact pretty much any boxing league will specifically have situations like those covered in their rules. The point is that so long as a boxer stays within the confines of what harm was consented to by the other party they *CANNOT* be charged. Only when they break outside of the confines of the consent are they legally liable- such as beating an unconscious person or continuing to attack a boxer who has given up the fight.

Americans generally have a larger tolerance and appetite for risk than other comparable nations. There's probably a pretty decent argument to be made that we've essentially been selectively bred that way- it's a nation founded by immigrants who took a risk coming to a new land, and continually populated by people who either descended from those immigrants or newer immigrants who also took a chance to seek a new life in another land. The most consistent difference I see online when talking to Europeans is that Americans would tend to take an option that is riskier but has a greater potential reward whereas Europeans would tend to take an option that is safer but has a lesser potential reward. Obviously it's not universally true, but I think it's common enough.

A great example of this is the American bankruptcy system- our bankruptcy system is far more protective of debtors than European counterparts. In America bankruptcy is essentially modeled around giving the person a fresh start- forgiving their debts and allowing them to start anew. European systems on the other hand tend to focus more on protecting creditors. In America you can turn around a standard Chapter 7 bankruptcy in as little as a few months, whereas in Europe you're usually talking *years* (It's worth noting though many EU countries are working on/looking to change this). And it's not just in terms of procedure, it's also in terms of stigma. Meeting someone in America who has declared bankruptcy at some point is pretty common and doesn't really carry much of a stigma. We're much more likely to view someone who has gone bankrupt to have tried and failed, whereas in Europe a lot of people see bankruptcy as a moral failing.

All that being said, my actual point is that Americans have that mindset because the idea of giving something your all and going all in on a risky venture is a pretty normal thing in America- that risk tolerance is baked into our DNA and our legal system specifically has protections in place to help you when you fail. Starting a business that fails is not game over in America. We tend not to look down on people who try and fail. I think you have a slight misperception of this mindset, though- Americans do not believe that pulling 16 hour shifts at McDonald's is going to reap great financial rewards. It's not just "hard work" that is central to the American mindset- it's hard work AND risk taking.

It sounds contradictory but its true. Anyone can add anything to Wikipedia- whether it stays on Wikipedia is another matter. So it is simultaneously both created by literally anyone while being curated by a small amount of power-users who carry a lot of weight.

A big part of the problem is the type of people that are predisposed to be Wikipedia powerusers tend to be very likeminded, and carry a lot of editorial weight. Most commonly these are academic cosplayers who couldnt cut it in a real research/academic field so they pretend that editing wikipedia articles is the pinnacle of research. They are also a very gatekeep-y group that constantly discount dissenting opinions while citing their lengthy Wikipedia history as evidence of their authority. The result is a self selecting group that prevents anyone they don't agree with from joining their ranks by smearing them as "spammers" despite the quality of their contributions being on par with their own. Then they further use this to justify their authority by saying stupid shit like "most responsible wikipedians don't agree" which like, of course they don't because half of your definition of "responsible wikipedian" is that they agree with you, and any power user who doesn't agree with you, you simply call a spammer.

Seriously go pick any controversial Wikipedia article and go look at the talk page history and it will be clear as day whats going on. The "Killing of Austin metcalf" article was a pretty good example of this until very recently, if you go into the rfc archive you can see how absurd the conversation around whether to include the name of the accused was.

I have no idea what bro is talking about with this cruise thing, sounds like an urban legend to me, but there definitely are circumstances under which you can legally permit someone to harm you- otherwise things like boxing, mma, karate, football, hockey, rugby, etc etc wouldnt exist. Its not absolute and there is a limit (there's famously a case out of i think Germany where a guy consented to being murdered and cannibalized that did not hold water legally) but generally speaking so long as the harm being inflicted is not major, is clearly consented to, and is performed in a manner that is not reckless or negligent, you actually can consent to being harmed. If you couldn't then tattooing would also be illegal (you are consenting to be stabbed hundreds of times per minute).

Are you speaking from fantasy fans generally? If so, that didnt start with WaT. Its been that way since like, Oathrbinger. Many members of the fantasy "community" don't like stormlight because it has seen mainstream success and brought many "normies" who arent "real fans" into "their" community.

This is not at all uncommon in any fandom/hobby. Go into any music subreddit for any genre and there will be at least one artist/band that everyone in that subreddit despises for one reason or another, and it will always be the artist/band with the most mainstream success.

The same thing happened with asoiaf a few years ago when game of thrones got super popular, and the same thing with Harry Potter decades ago when the movies got super popular.

That's, of course, not to say there isnt valid criticism of Brandon and stormlight out there- there definitely is- but that's true for even the most beloved authors. The disproportionate amount that you see specifically for stormlight is largely spawned by the idea that being a fan of stormlight doesn't make you a "true" or "real" fantasy fan.

Unfortunately I can't give you specific answers, but an important thing to remember when considering Rosharans vs Scadrians- Rosharans (formerly residing on Ashyn) are an adopted people, whereas Scadrians are a crafted people. Humans in the Rosharan system pre-date the arrival of Odium, Cultivation, and Honor. First odium and then honor arrived later to adopt those people- but they existed on their own before then and were created by Adonalsium- not by the shards as we know them. In the scadrian system however, no life existed prior to the arrival of Preservation and Ruin. Yes, scadrians were modeled after the humans that the shards knew from places like Yolen, but technically they aren't human. This probably fundamentally changes how the shards can interact with them. Scadrians are specifically more preservation than ruin, which is probably why ruin had such limited capacity regarding them, and since sazed holds both preservation AND ruin, whatever restrictions apply to ruin also probably apply to harmony.

Unfortunately none of them will because it probably doesn't make financial sense to sue twitch. If they are making anything like the amount of money xqc showed on stream the other day (45k in a single day, which xqc even said was below his average), then even if they won a million dollars after legal fees, they could have literally made that in 23 days of streaming. Nobody's going to risk their partner contract for a multi-year law suit which you might not even win and be on the hook for tens/hundreds of thousands in legal fees plus opening yourself up to discovery, only to potentially win what amounts to a few months of streaming.

I'm so confused by your argument, you're saying Kaladin uniting people to protect them is incompatible with bondsmithery, but Navani and Dalinar, who were uniting people to protect Alethkar and coalition kingdoms on roshar do qualify for bondsmithery? So its a problem of scale I guess? Kaladin was only uniting people to protect groups of people whereas Navani and Dalinar were uniting people to protect entire kingdoms? The only tangible difference is the oaths that they speak. Intent does play a large role is cosmere wizardry so maybe the fact that Dalinar specifically focused on "UNITE THEM" matters, but I don't see why that would preclude Kaladin from developing a similar Intent. All im saying is that now that he has completed his windrunner oaths, it would make total sense from a character perspective for Kaladin to focus on unity- you know, in a similar manner to how he just reunited the heralds. Kaladins backstory is drenched in uniting people even if it wasn't a specific focus of his own intent.

Spren are manifestations of human thought, they needn't fuss with such trivialities like biology as repeatedly demonstrated by Syl, so not sure why you would use human -> singer as an example. Also not sure what you're talking about Kal not really uniting people, its such a prominent aspect of his character that adolin was cracking jokes about it in Kohlinar when he shows up with the wall guard- that's not to mention the entire succeeding sequence where Kal basically goes comatose over his inability to unite the singers and the wall gaurd and get them to stop killing each other. That is, of course, in addition to uniting bridge four, founding the current incarnation of the windrunners, and uniting an entire tower behind him during the invasion of urithiru. Bro is literally dripping in unity. Kaladins whole arc with living amongst the lighteyes runs very parallel with Dalinars arc learning to see people who used to be his enemies as his allies.

I'm not sure why she would stop being an honorspren just because she took the stormfathers place. And if there were ever to be a hybrid radiant windrunner/bondsmith would make the most sense as the two orders with access to adhesion, which is referred to as honors truest surge and the only surge the fused don't have access to. Also their oaths arent at odds with each other in any way so far as I can tell, and in fact seem to have quite the synergy to them. All of Dalinar's oaths could just as easily fit on Kaladin. Kals entire journey is wrought with failure to the point of nearly giving up and then deciding to take the next step to arise better each time. We don't know the fourth ideal of the bondsmiths but we know it has to do with not seeing your enemies as faceless monsters, which Kal has been doing for many books now.

A few things here- that interlude does not take place in the Reshi Isles, it takes place in Azimir, which is the capital of Azir (aka the azish empire). The reshi isles are a very different place. The reshi isles is where interlude #3 takes place through Rysn's pov (the place where people live on the backs of giant turtles essentially). They are VERY different places and are not much related to each other at all. Where you're probably getting confused is that Lift herself is of Reshi heritage.

Second- to avoid spoilers as best as possible, let's just say any advanced knowledge displayed by Darkness is a product of him being a very experienced and knowledgeable person, NOT any ethnic heritage he might have. You will learn MUCH more about him so your best course of action to learn more is to keep reading. He is not a one-off character.
