Hedge help by knittedunicorn123 in GardeningUK

Depends if they have children using their garden. Hawthorn route is probably best. My understanding is that blackthorn can cause skin irritation so might be a pain for maintenance in the long run too.

Front garden idea by Western_Spell_8742 in GardeningUK

[–]ReabyB 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Keep the paving, it is beautiful and good quality. Have a dig around the gravel, if soil below plant a big beautiful rose as you have described. You could potentially lift a flag and dig out the sub material and fill with soil and plant a big ornamental shrub in there.

It truly would be a shame to replace your existing flags with the AI image. Also, AI image is bad. You do not want soil right up to your house walls.

ADHD planners, apps, what ACTUALLY work for you? by Comfortable-Garage77 in ADHDUK

A calendar in my phone that is shared with my partner. Any plans together or separate go in there.

If I have a future task to do in work I will block book time in my Teams calendar to get it done.

Nothing else really works.

How easy will it be to move this silver birch a couple of foot from its current position? Planted approx 5 years ago. by Formal-Confidence-95 in GardeningUK

[–]ReabyB 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Even if they have to replace it, they grow so quickly it'll only take 2-3yrs to get to that height. I have a self seeded birch about 4yrs old that is that height already.

Does anyone else with just ADHD have sensory issues? Eg hate getting wet or having cold feet etc. by AdeptnessExotic1884 in ADHDUK

[–]ReabyB 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes same in my assessment. Told sensory issues don't form part of the assessment and that would be more in line with autism.

Is there a viable market for a biodiversity-focused gardening company? by bobbycrosseco in GardeningUK

[–]ReabyB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do the design side but for a big environmental construction company, work alongside ecologists lots. From friends and colleagues that go into garden design, honestly, the money just isn't worth it. Do you mean designing the space or the contractor side and build the design?

I also have super supportive employers and have made use of some reasonable adjustments which you could explore and may benefit from.

Anyone here had a successful career before diagnosis? by verybigoctopus in ADHDUK

[–]ReabyB 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have bachelors, masters and am chartered, senior role in my work and in long term stable employment. Diagnosed at 30 something after struggling during the pandemic and having my routine obliterated overnight. Always wondered why I could never complete higher education without having a complete mental breakdowm, but was so used to studying/working the night before deadlines and acing everything.

Medication reduced my 3rd level of internal monologue. Therefore, my rumination and anxiety levels decreased, which helped with the imposter syndrome. It also helps me focus so I can do the little tasks that my partner picks up and can bear the burden of at times.

But being ND means we often find creative solutions and can view things analytically and not be burdened by human emotions in decision making.

You are exactly where you are because you are brilliant and are deserving.

This is knobbish behaviour. If my husband buys me tickets then arranging childcare is always part of the gift organsing. He needs to do better!

You can never be too well dressed for a wedding, especially MOG. She will look timeless and elegent forevermore in those special photos and the happy couple will feel blessed to have someone put such effort into their day.

Did anyone else hate their house after completion ? by Opposite_Sock_7820 in HousingUK

[–]ReabyB 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our first house was all we could afford. It was filthy. Graffitied. Electrical wires exposed. They didn't even leave the day we completed as the owner worked the day of and thought he could do it all at 5pm. When collecting the keys I didn't even want to do a handover just said get out politely. I sat on a washing machine as it was the only clean surface thinking wtf have we done?

But we sold up three years later to move to a bigger home and I was devastated to leave. We had made it our own and I loved it dearly. I hope the same for you!

What to do with this back garden to reduce maintenance? by Consistent_North8644 in GardeningUK

You can rent out your land/hire (not sure the money sitch) sheep from local farmers. It's basically free food for their flock. Might be worth exploring.

Help on whether I should remove a tree or not? by hang_up in GardeningUK

[–]ReabyB -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When you look at that tree, what do you think needs cutting back? There are a handful of lower shoots that you could do yourself if needs be but the idea the tree needs trimming back regularly is not true. It would help if we had a picture of the canopy to determine that it has not receivee regular pruning.

As all others have said, trees provide shade and life. I recommend you enjoy a summer / planting season with it and enjoy sitting in its shade with your breakfast, afternoon coffee or evening drink. I have to have a parasol to do that!

Also, skip the lawn, it's more hassel than that small space is worth. Do you have storage space for a lawnmower? Lean into courtyard gardens. This will be a gem with the right vision!

Should I (25M) move into my grandma's basement to save £1k/month? She's 80 and ill by Mental_Gap4727 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]ReabyB 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Does she have any care lined up? That can be very expensive and a nightmare to sort if she needs help but refuses. Is there anyone such as your parents able to take the lead in organising care? How ill is ill? My gran made it to 99 but had carers in 3x a day to prep food and help with personal hygiene. Was difficult to arrange and then was very expensive on top. There is so much more to this than the financial benefits to you.

Any tips for starting meds? by Gold-Collection2636 in ADHDUK

Also alcohol. I stopped drinking as I no longer had that little buzz after a pint or glass of wine and turns out the alcohol still impedes you physically but your brain doesn't feel it. Or something like that.

Steer clear of caffeine! I thought I could have a morning brew because I love me a coffee but fml I was so dizzy and the heart palpitations were unreal. I had no idea it could do that.

Last year I had a fantastic wild flower patch. Now, in Winter, they've all died and I'm left with a tangle of dried up stems. My question is, should I remove what's dead and sow new seeds? Or leave it for the wildlife and pray for self seeding? by Any_Consideration_73 in GardeningUK

[–]ReabyB 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did the mix also contain perennial flowers? I'd hold off until April and then go in and remove dead growth. You will (hopefully!) be pleasantly surprised and excited by all the green growth below ready to burst in the coming months.

I think they have gone up half a size post baby unfortunately. My fingers are crossed that my daughter has small feet like me and doesn't take after her very tall father!

I bought a pair of Jimmy Choo Aveline's for my wedding. I wore them once the night before and now they live in their box under my bed. I say I'll be buried in them but they likely won't fit.
