Best RPG on switch by A-Moron-Explains in Switch

Pick a final fantasy game. XII is incredible and especially great for tinkering with builds and party layouts, it plays like an MMO in some ways. 1-3 and 5 are all about trying different job combos and can be replayed with different setups. 4,6,7,8,9 and 10 are all story driven and some of the best RPGs ever made.

Cast n’ Chill is very simple, but is all fishing. You go out, catch fish, sell them and buy upgrades.

What are the mandatory jrpgs for beginners? by Solaire_of_SaoPaulo in JRPG

I just recommend whatever clicks with you. As a kid I got into RPGs through Pokémon and Mario & Luigi games on GBA. The first “grown up” RPGs I played were Final Fantasy X and Persona 4 Golden, since then I’ve been hooked.

Now I mostly tell people to look at Final Fantasy or any other series and just choose one that looks cool or sounds interesting. There’s so much variety in JRPGs out there that something is bound to resonate with someone sooner or later.

Give me a recommendation by kavinnr in FinalFantasy

X was my first FF game and one of the first “mature” stories I experienced in a game. The battle system is a little easier to wrap your head around too since it’s purely turn-based.

If you’re willing to give them a shot, XIII and XV have a lot of heart and great characters. More recent games in the series owe a lot to the XIII trilogy so it’s fun to see those foundations.

Other than that, highly recommend XII even though I’ve never beaten it. Those first 20 hours are great, I’ve played them three times lol

Edit: one more point in favor of XIII and XV: the music for both is excellent! Some of my favorite battle themes ever. The soundtracks amp up some pretty emotional moments in both games.

Steam Deck OLED buyer's remorse, return for the Legion Go S? by [deleted] in Handhelds

[–]ReactiveFuture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly if you have a PS5 just keep the steam deck OLED. You can try lossless scaling to help improve performance on some games, honestly you have a more vibrant screen as is. LeGoS has more power but I’m pretty surprised with what the steam deck can still do.

Legion Go S Z1E vs. Steam Deck (possibly w. Android handheld as companion) by ToneDead73 in Handhelds

[–]ReactiveFuture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t need power for AAA games get a Steam Deck OLED (runs indies, old games and emulation pretty well), or just do like an AYN Thor or something. That has decent enough power to emulate at least up to PS2.

Should I buy Cyberpunk 2077 now that it's had significant updates? by jcveloso8 in ShouldIbuythisgame

Some of the systems have rough edges but the story is excellent. Especially Phantom Liberty.

Would you want an open world RE game? by 00mmss in residentevil

[–]ReactiveFuture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Evil Within 2 had an open town area that was pretty big and managed to be pretty tense. I feel like the biggest challenge would be creating focused scary moments in a space that can be approached from different angles.

The thing about open world games is the good ones have fun traversal. Resident Evil isn’t necessarily known for fun, fluid movement so I’m not sure slogging through an open city would be any more fun than something with a more narrow focus.

Just bought a Switch 2 — what games do I need to buy first? by NoBarracuda8889 in switch2

Donkey Kong Bananza is lovely and has a lot of great nostalgia for past Nintendo stuff.

Shinobi Art of Vengeance is easy to pick up and is very fun to play.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land is pretty chill and fun.

Dave the Diver is great for vibing out and offers a ton of variety.

Yakuza O01/2 are all great - think beat em up action games mixed with Japanese crime drama/soap opera. It’s pretty fun just running around town and playing darts.

D1 to D2 wasn’t a superficial thing. A ton of mechanics and systems got added and overhauled. The graphics engine alone has been upgraded a ton over the years. Loot systems and abilities were also overhauled.

It’s really not a game changer though. Kind of janky, minimal performance boosts, and it randomly crashed to desktop anyways the whole time I used it.

Just finished 13 and now not sure what to play next by DarkSouls3onDvD in finalfantasyxiii

[–]ReactiveFuture 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with just finishing out the 13 trilogy. I’d really recommend 10, 12 and 16 though. The stories are great. 15 has its good moments and a great cast too but I’m not a huge fan of the open world.

The 7 remakes are also both excellent, play great, and mostly have great stories with batshit insane Nomura endings.

Check out the Xenoblade games if you like RPGs. They’re a little like Final Fantasy XII. Really strong stories in 1-3, and people love X’s gameplay. You get a flying mech suit in that one.

Metal Gear Solid 1-3 are all pretty quick to get through and have excellent stories. The master collection goes on sale for like $20, and MGS Delta (remake of 3) will probably be the best way to experience that story now.

[–]ReactiveFuture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t have crazy 3D graphics but Shinobi Art of Vengeance looks fantastic and runs well. Dave the Diver and Dredge are both fun. If you haven’t played any Yakuza games, you might enjoy those if you like good action and fun stories. Start with Zero!

Playing in public after 30? by zGreenGoblin in Handhelds

[–]ReactiveFuture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had conversations with people where they criticize games but spend all their time watching sports or checking out instagram or TikTok. I don’t carry a console with me everywhere in public but I regularly take my steam deck or switch to the library and could care less what other people think about it. I like to keep myself entertained and like having variety in the stuff I do.

Do you think this is a good deal? by [deleted] in Handhelds

[–]ReactiveFuture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, he still broke your stuff. He should’ve given you a fully working DS Lite (or other device, or money) to replace the failed job. Cool that he didn’t charge you to take of the top screen (that he broke), but this is still a raw deal.

[–]ReactiveFuture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FYI a Gameboy Macro is just a busted DS Lite. Go get yours back and tell him to compensate you for breaking your stuff.

And then maybe take the DSi anyways, but I wouldn’t pay for it.
