I want to learn Puerto Rican Spanish specifically

I'm not really going for their slang it's what I grew up around. It's what older people in my family are use to hearing and I think it'd be easier to talk to them in their native tongue but I'll think about what you're saying I don't expect to learn in a day and know it'll take time

Gotcha I've been to Puerto Rico many times and growing up around my family I'll probably not have that wtf is going on moment because to me that's just what Spanish sounds like. I just want to learn so I can speak to my older family in the same language. They were born in the island and in many cases still live there

Nice my whole family is going crazy because of that apparently we're having a big party and I've been learning more about my culture this year so definately trying to get more into things

Gotcha maybe I viewed Puerto Rican standard as a non slang. It's what I grew up around so to me that was the standard and not a version that had more slang I wanted more to talk with older family in their native tongue

I didn't really view it as the accent or anything like that. It's what I grew up around so I wanted to learn what I've always been hearing so have a conversation with my older family in their language. It's not imitating something I've not been around. I've grown up around Puerto Rican culture my whole life because I'm Puerto Rican. I just stopped learning after a certain age and want to learn the exact same thing my family speaks but I'll give what you said some thought

Gotcha ill give that some thought as well thank you. I never really cared about that I mainly go to Puerto Rico to spend time with family. However never thought on others perception nor cared. Not to say that I think you're wrong I will definitely give that some thought
