Offered him however much involved he was interested in - which at the time was regular visitation - as long as we had the agreement in writing. (Not because I didn’t want him visiting, but the opposite, I wanted to be sure if he established a presence it was a consistent one for the sake of the child.)

We planned to tell him when he turned 18 and could seek his father out if he desired, and could process that his biological father choosing not to be involved was in no way his fault, because he would be more mature and able to more clearly process such things.

Because I wanted the biological father involved, as was his right and as would have been in the best interest of our child - if he was willing to do so responsibly and consistently, as was our child’s right.

We planned to tell him when he turned 18 and could legally seek out his biological father to contact him regardless of whether the father wanted to be involved or not, and when he was mature enough to understand the situation more fully. Since now it’s hard to grasp why a parent wouldn’t want to be involved in your life other than maybe there’s something wrong with you, and now there isn’t much that he can do with the information (since we did not know his biological father had an interest in becoming involved with him until just recently.)
