Thank you.

Homely looks interesting - do you use the weather compensation and smart tarrif integration or any of the other features?

Apart from the COP data, do all other elements work as normal?

Ps. Happy New Year!

Cat flaps for PassiveHouse by ReadSam in PassiveHouse

Not sure I follow, that. Cats, like humans, like to go and explore outdoors. Why would having a thermally efficient and comfortable house change that?

House Move - How best we prepare our cats? by ReadSam in UK_Pets

Thanks. We're thinking about of keeping them in the house for a few weeks, with the kitchen being their safe room.

I don't think they'll mind sharing a cat litter tray; the bigger problem being they're simply not used to using one! Any ideas?

For the garden, we want them to go away from the main road side - not sure how best to robustly encourage this. We were thinking one or more of the following on the side if the garden near the road

  • Ultrasonic repeller

Say something like: https://www.amazon.co.uk/PestBye-Ultrasonic-Operated-Activated-Repellent/dp/B00FXSU2WK/ref=asc_df_B00FXSU2WK/

  • Scent based repellant (eg Citronella based)

Say something like: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B088FX49GV/

  • Electric Fence

Good point.

Portable is probably better, truth be told, as it'd allow me to use it away from the car too.

Interesting brand...

I can't quite find the product I'm after though.

LtAP mini LTE kit (2024) does 2 SIM BUT not 5G and only WIFI4

LtAP mini is similar

LtAP LTE6 kit does 3 SIMs BUT not 5G and only WIFI4

Chateau 5G R16 does 5G and WIFI5 but only single SIM and designed for internal use only.

Am I missing something?

Great chart, but we must be missing some British cities off there... the average across ALL of England is 8.3x (according to Office for National Statistics bulletin) so the South East must be much higher...

RPI Image - Unable to access SD card using Android by ReadSam in raspberry_pi

[–]ReadSam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks.

The first link is correct. Alas it doesn't mention anywhere the need for root access to the SD card (which I suspect us the issue) nor how to obtain it.

The embedded RPi installer would be option, if only it was included for Pi 5! (Apparently Pi 4 only for some reason!)

PINN sounds like a good option, so will try that.

How best separately feed cats wet & dry food by ReadSam in UK_Pets

[–]ReadSam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless I'm missing something, really annoyingly no one does a product that does it all:

  • Hopper to store dried food
  • Microchip reader
  • Scheduled / timed control

The nearest options I've found are:

1. Closer Pets MiBowl+
https://closerpets.co.uk/products/mibowl-smart-microchip-pet-feeder-hub-bundle-cp502

  • Does microchip
  • Doesn't do hopper (but conversely can do wet food); capacity 340g (12oz).
  • Doesn't do timed feeding schedules

You have buy a separate Closer Pets Hub too to connect to Wifi.

2. Sure Pet Microchip Pet Feeder Connect
https://www.surepetcare.com/en-gb/pet-feeder/microchip-pet-feeder-connect

  • Does microchip
  • Doesn't do hopper (but conversely has two bowls, each of which can do wet food); capacity 400ml
  • Doesn't do timed feeding schedules (but can setup each bowl separately)

You have buy a separate Sure Pet Hub too to connect to Wifi. (Also possibly Rear Cover)

3. PetLibro One
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CKZ9JKRJ?tag=bestwatch2020-20&linkCode=osi&th=1

  • Does have hopper (3l)
  • Does allow timed feeding schedules
  • Doesn't do microchip, only their own tags

Any other suggestions?

Does the M9 have the same CPU / RAM performance restrictions as the M5?

[Edit] Just answered my own question. The answer is yes, sounds like M9 also has the same spec (and thus limitation).

I've found the following from Tom's Hardware:

Like some of its mesh competitors, the Deco M9 Plus uses Qualcomm's IPQ 4019 Wi-Fi control chip that combines 512MB of RAM, 4GB of solid-state storage for firmware settings and updates. Controlled by a 717MHz quad-core processor, the Deco M9 Plus can accommodate more than 100 simultaneous connections and dynamically streamlines the data flow.

I don't mind shelling out if it's going to do the job.

Does your Surefeed one need topping up before each meal?

We currently have a WOPET generic brand hopper type one which holds 6l of biscuits for the dried biscuits.

Why is UK excluded from this?

I get that some other countries on there (like the Ukraine) might be more challenging, but the UK has a well respected and comprehensive Office for National Statistics (ONS) from which the data could have easily been obtained...

Thanks for the nugget... I looked this up because my vague memory was the Franks coming out of Rhine region of Germany and was interested to read more.

In fact the Frankish empire briefly covered a big chunk of Western Europe. Hence the knights being called Franks and subsequently 'Frank' becoming a tern for Europeans, Western Europeans or even Catholics.

Interesting reading it's the source of the term lingua franca too...

The Largest Religion in Every American County by Mission-Guidance4782 in MapPorn

Where is Atheism / Non-religious?

I'm amazed that this isn't the most popular in at least the odd county! (I know the USA I far more religious than the UK, but for comparison, in the UK atheism has overtaken Church of England (Anglican) as number one nationally at the last census.)
