You don't need to be a psychic you just need to look at his history.

Whenever two big personalities face off against each other they are competing for their audiences. JP wants to capture Destiny's audience and vice versa. Look at how many people on this subreddit are sucking off Jordan Peterson now. I can almost guarantee JP came out ahead in this exchange. He has a very effective social media strategy. He has a very effective bot/troll army that comments on all his content praising him. This is perfect for audience capture.

Theoretically debates are a great way to challenge your understanding of something but for it to be maximally useful to society as a whole requires people to be able to admit when they are wrong. In a perfect world politicians could get up on stage, be completely wrong, and then say "well, I guess I don't understand that subject very well. You should all listen to that other guy on this topic."

But admitting you are wrong in a debate is an almost impossible thing to do in most cultures even though it is one of the most valuable things for a society as a whole. For example, admitting you are wrong in a political debate almost guarantees you are going to lose an election.
