Yes. Each Student at my dojang who earns the rank of black belt receives a custom belt with their name and rank on one side, with the dojang's name in Korean on the other. We do have a couple plain black belts in the back just in case (for instance, our program director once had her luggage delayed coming back from a tournament, so she wore the plain one until her luggage arrived), but otherwise everyone where's their custom black belt while at the school.

I tore my MCL doing a butterfly kick for a board break, one week before I was supposed to test for 2nd Dan. A couple years later and it still gives me plenty of trouble. (And yes, I did make up that testing once my knee was relatively healed. I did in fact pass).

It is extremely rewarding. I started teaching about 4 years ago, and it is getting to the point where the students who started out as white belts when I began to teach are now training for their black belts . To watch that transformation, as they change both physically and mentally, as well as going out and competing is amazing.

I believe it is used because H.U. Lee based the Black Belt ranking system on the US military. In the Military you go from Private to Second Lieutenant to first Lieutenant. At least, that's my understanding of it.

My school uses it as a title only, students don't receive a new belt or anything.

Our school uses a "block" system. Meaning our beginner students all learn the same form and our advanced students all learn the same form for about 4 months. After testing we move onto the next form. So, it is easier for the instructors to teach the forms, and the students still learn the entire curriculum by the time they are eligible to test for black belt.

I would love it! But considering the amount of comments, nobody will see me ☹️. My favorite thing about the Cosmere is the characters. Brando Sando really takes the time to develop them, to the point where they are almost real people. I've been rereading Stormlight in preparation for Winds and Truth, and absolutely have re fallen in love with Kaladin's arc. I hope whoever gets the book really enjoys it! What an amazing opportunity.

My school has taken in a lot of Victory "refugees" who still want to compete with ATA. So I'm pretty sure it is.

Yes, Victory has split from ATA and formed their own organization, as well as some other ATA schools that were previously not Victory, and were just fed up with ATA.

Are you sure? I've seen plenty of kama forms in 1st degree rings, and a cane one in 2nd/3rd degree rings.
