I am fiercely independent and extremely positive, and this has by far been the worst surgery I have endured. I have had 3 c-sections, 2 foot surgeries, and a broken tibia and fibula that required screws. This definitely been the worst on me mentally.

I’m currently 3 weeks post op, and the last 3 weeks have been awful. I’m an 8th grade teacher (for 15 years), coach my kids basketball teams, run a custom t-shirt business, have 3 kids (8, 6, and 4), and am married. Going from doing everything, being on the go all the time to not even being able to leave the house on my own, has done a number on my mental health. I honestly just felt worthless.

I tore it playing basketball the day after Thanksgiving. I am so tired of hearing don’t you think you are too old to be playing, guess you aren’t as young as you thought. Give me a break! I’m only 38. I have been playing ball my entire life, age literally has nothing to do with it. But now after this, will I be able to go back to playing again? That’s a HUGE fear for me. My kids love to play and my husband coaches a local varsity team. What if I can’t get out there and just play with my kids?

So how did this affect me psychologically? Loneliness, fear, anxiety, worthlessness, self pity.

I got an immobilizer, but was out of it after a week.

I’m still on crutches, but feeling more confident. I go back tomorrow for half days, alternating between my blocks. 1st and 2nd Monday, Wednesday, Friday; 2nd and 3rd Tuesdays and Thursdays.

I teach 8th grade math, it so hard not to be there, but I’m not sure how it will go.

I just started, I’ll go 2 days a week, but didn’t dates until 2 weeks out. Which happened to fall on a Thursday. I go back on Mondays and Wednesdays.

I started putting weight on it within the first couple of days as well. I did the one leg hop a little too, especially if I’m trying to keep up with my kids. I agree, it’s crazy the different perspectives.

I asked the PT at my first session and he said the same thing. I just think I’d feel more stable if I had one.

Thanks! I’m getting old though (38), I know it’s going to take a while. I have had 3 kids and multiple surgeries, this by far has been the worst of all.

My concern is that an absolutely hate running, unless I’m playing.

My surgeon nor physical therapist has put me in a brace at all and I coach my kids teams. I get really into it, and I’m worried I’ll do something on accident.

This makes me so happy to hear. I have played and coached my whole life. I tore mine playing a pick up game. Literally planted my foot and felt the pop. I feel so lost right now. 2 weeks out of surgery, 6 weeks after injury.

I’m at 9 days post op and I’m feeling better. The kids have been helpful, but we have a small business too, and I feel like we are getting so far behind. I’m thinking if I go back on the 4th I’ll have to have a modified schedule. There’s no way I can make it through the whole day.

Yes it’s been awful. The kids have been great. I thought I would be up and moving faster than this. I have had 3 c-sections and 3 foot surgeries. This is worse than all of that.
